Top court acquits Vietnamese trainee of abandoning stillborn twins

Sorry for the loss and situation. When it comes to tragic injury or loss of life, reporting it to the police right away might save trouble.

Why is no responsibility expected of the father? Women do not get pregnant alone. It is absurd to see her suffer and be punished, yet he is without any repercussion.

The original trial focused on her putting the babies in a box and thus "concealing" them.

It's what I would have done if I had a box with no intention to hide them.

Glad the higher court saw sense.

Well done! Abolishing the trainee systems is next.

Of course she thought she would have been deported or fired from her job, because she WOULD have.

Anyone that's spent any time in Japan knows that.

The story is, despite the acquittal, tragic. However, this made me laugh. The famously woke Japanese judicial system with its virtue-signalling support for minorities and gender equality. Lmao!

Or are we at the stage where everything showing any decency or compassion is considered "woke"?

They are and never were technical trainees. If she had to attend a college to get further knowledge, and the n sent to a work place to implement that knowledge with specific aim, I could agree it’s training. Was there a specific course? Specific tests? Was there a person overseeing the training that wasn’t an employer? Was there any language training for these skills? Or was the course actually run in Vietnamese? If the answer to most of these things is “no”. Then I’m going to assume it is another law to skirt around abusing someone. Putting mandarins in a box, and putting them in a barn, or on a truck, isn’t training. It’s slave labour by any other name.

the definition of a still born is a baby that is born dead. Not alive! We don’t know if the babies were born alive. They could have died in the womb much much earlier.

The problem here is the prosecutors argues she “conceals” them. She did not.

Family has nothing to do with learning or work. If it has, the world will not produce any child.

Its insanely callous that she was even prosecuted for this in the first place.

The woman should never have experienced all of her sufferings and should have had support.

A stillbirth is the death or loss of a baby before or during delivery.

So it they were not living, breathing, functioning human beings.

she should get counseling. Very traumatic for her. We should show compassion.

The Supreme Court judgement is very fair. The poor woman was in a terrible dilemna, being in a foreign country. It would be interesting to know who the father of the children was, was he another trainee, or was he an employer who took advantage of her? She would have been especially vulnerable to the latter.

During the trial, Linh said that she planned to hold a funeral for them but had not known what to do given the severity of the situation. She also said she had not revealed to anyone that she was pregnant for fear of being deported.

No one will understand her DELAMA as a Woman, living alone in a foreign land under Strick rules and just gave birth to two Stillborn Twins.

The mere fact that this was her main concern should really alert the Japanese government to what a sham this technical internship is - nothing more than cheap, slave labor.

I am actually surprised that the court used some common sense in handing down this judgement.

This was the supreme court, The district and high courts found her guilty. I suspect that by the time case got all the way to the supreme court, Japan was getting worried about its image in the eyes of the world.

Happy that she is being freed, it's not the last one there will be another new one in the future, due company that accept trainee they don't like if their worker unable to work.

I am actually surprised that the court used some common sense in handing down this judgement. Now I just hope that this is truly the "final" sentence and the woman and everyone can put it to a peaceful rest!

I guess we will never know if they were actually still born or suffocated from not clearing their airway after birth. If she went full term it’s very unlikely they were both still born.

Come to Japan and become fearful of being a human being by having a child or children?

There needs to be some deep soul searching about what constitutes a fair and decent society here.
