Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the stabbing of an international student in Osaka on Tuesday.

Police said the 28-year-old Vietnamese man, who is enrolled in a scientific postgraduate course at Osaka University in Toyonaka, was found on campus, with a knife in his stomach at around 4:20 p.m., NTV reported. The man is expected to make a full recovery within weeks, hospital officials said.

The victim has not made any statement to police yet. Investigators are trying to establish the circumstances that led up to the attack. There were no witnesses and police did not say whether it was a case of attempted murder or a possible suicide attempt.

The man has been a student at the university since 2010.

Hope he is willing to talk.

This is an extraordinary incident, so I won't be surprised if there's an extraordinary reason behind it.

Probably Vietnamese on Vietnamese crime over some woman.

Vietnamese males can go ballistic upon the first sign of losing face.

What is with Osaka?

I am his close friend. Anyone knows more detail information, please provide us but please do not try to make doubt.

do you have any detailed information?

If anyone really wanted him dead, I'm sure they would have gone all the way. This is probably a message sent and delivered. A stab in the stomach is really painful and in most cases the chances of survival are fair, not always promisable but fair. If it were suicide, maybe just maybe, he got a second chance.

To Lowly: It is very sad that I am not in Japan so that I do not have any further information than that in this thread news. Thank you for your consideration.

The Japanese news say that he ran to the campus security (警備員室)and he collapsed there. The security called police, and they carried him to the hospital, but he is still unconscious. due to the circumstances, the police is looking at it as attempted murder

I suspect this stabbing was self induced.

sure are allot of stabbing incidents this month..this heat must be driving the crazy people over the edge.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

evidence supports that it is a self inflicted wound...

I would be inclined to imagine that more than the "natural heat of summer" the "heat" from all the "untruths" of the Japanese Government together with the uncertainty of safety on so many levels could drive anyone to either randomly attack someone or eventually even wish to "do themselves in".

This is a graduate student not a postgraduate. Where did postgraduate term come from. This guy is M2 thats a postgrad? And how can someone stab himself then run to the security?

I see, hope he feels better.

re suicide

sorry, was that a joke? bc no-one commits suicide by cutting open their stomachs except in old samurai movies.

it is about the most painful way to do it. you stay alive for possibly hours as you slowly bleed to death. also, not only are there about as many nerves in yr tummy as your brain, insuring you will feel all the kinds of pain, but your guts will begin to drip out, if the hole's big enough, which will just be horrible.

There are no "nerves" in the brain; It's incapable of registering pain. If you've got a headache, it's a result of problems in the membrane which covers the brain. Usually dehydration (=hangover).

Yes, probably an attempt at harry carey. Hopefully this is the case so we can ease our fears of some psycho running loose. I guess we will wait to see what the JT follow-up coverage will be on this especially since his nationality was headlined which may lead to the belief that this a crime of hate.

He admitted committing suicide, due to pressure. Now even foreigners are infected by the Japanese societal disease. What have you been living for?
