That is why I would not use G-mail or anything SONY.

The Chinese are obviously much better at this stuff than the Japanese are. Why is JP IT so poor?

Why does China want to know everything about me?

With so many of these cases originating from China, either China is really complicit or they're really incompetent for having so many of their computers turn zombies.

can't wait to see what happens when the rest of the world teams up against the computers of the dishonest chinese government. or why don't the super hackers give it a try, maybe it's worth the challenge.

Pity they can't just unplug china from the internet, nothing good comes out of china anyway.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

China needs to own up to doing this.

Even if it's some script-kiddies in China and not the government, the C-government is still incompetent for not being able to do anything about it that it keeps happening again and again giving China a bad reputation. Don't forget that the C-government heavily filters China's internet - if they can find underground democracy activists in every Net and cranny, they surely can find much-publicized script-kiddies. Unless of course, if the C-government is not doing anything to find these "rogue computers" because it is indeed complicit with them.

i really hate to bash the chinese government, but they are so sneaky, it's disgusting. they are giving the poor country such a bad reputation. but we must all be prepared to expect the worst back-stabbing from that government.

Because they still use Windows!

Jared Norman, me me me. Why is it always about you!? :)

johninnaha, agree whole heartedly. Firsthand experience pointing out a wide open MS server via unix/OS X and getting the response from the "CIO", "Who uses macs, anyway?". Pathetic.

----"The Chinese are obviously much better at this stuff than the Japanese are. Why is JP IT so poor?"

It's time Japan review its hardware making (monozukuri) supremacy policy and pay attention also to other fields. (Ishihara, mayor of Tokyo, once said that all American missles will be grounded if Japan stops selling America its IC chips.)

In June, Internet giant Google said a cyber-spying campaign originating in China had targeted the Gmail accounts of senior U.S. officials, military personnel, journalists and Chinese political activists.

It's the last few words that give the Chinese government away. Who else would be interested in hacking into the activists' accounts? Sloppy, sneaky, and sooooo obvious!

Chinese believe in Power alone. When they know you too can attack, they will be good. Japan and America should come up (like China, make it a national project) with some deadly stuff and turn all Chinese government machinaries off for a week, then you won't see anything coming from Pekin anymore.

Yeah, they should move to something better like Linux.

China is a peaceful country, like Islam, China would never hurt, kill or oppress anybody, trust me!!

Thinking out of the box.. Should the 'crime' be really committed by Chinese in China, does it make sense to have programed the fetched data to servers located in the country. Conclusion : the chances are : the Chinese are obviously NOT much better than the Japanese at this stuff or somebody else sets this up as a a 'Chinese' hacking job ?

China, the best frenemy you can ever have.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Frenemy?? LoL!! Great new word!!

They should use Linux, no more problem, and it even prevents budget cuts! :D

These are not ordinary hackers, just by looking at the targets they hit. Like others said, this is a government backed operation. How do you think China has advanced so quickly in their weaponary? It definietly wasn't Chinese know how since all they make is junk. Bunch of thieves

Well that's what the Chinese government train their hackers for. The world can't win China. The country was built on sneaky tactics. China is following its "art of war." Know your enemy, know yourself, a hundred battles = a hundred victories.

Governments need to catch up with the times and install proper security systems, and train their staff in Information Security.

They also need to redefine the scope of the term 'an act of war' to include state-sanctioned cyber terrorism, so that the full suite of retaliatory measuresare aer available to them should China (or any other nation) persist with such behaviour.

This happens only because (a)unprotected computers (b)smarter "penetrators" (c)kids having fun= they see the trees not just the forest. (d) bad security. During 2005, two under 15 kids and a 18 yrs old disrupted 400.000 computers in the US. (read: http://bit.ly/tgbrzL) and made us$58k. There was a Michael Calce who crashed yahoo, dell, ebay, amazon, etrade, CNN at 15. Last week kid found a way to have Ipads and Ipods use SIRI (The voice command bought by Apple from a military provider in the US).

Even the Pentagon, a victim, recruits and has contests to hire kids for national security. Read this FORBES article "Pentagon Seeks High School Hackers" : http://onforb.es/vinPA5 .

So please, do not say kids in any country are unable to do horrible thinks to your data. The question is... how can banks, gov ts and Web 2.0 still say online transactions are safe and tell your data is safe. Worse, If any interested party wants to destroy communications, steal data, etc... the world is a free way. Anytime a transgression happens, the state or company speakers (remember the Sony case?) say that a very complex and prepared gang did it.. and some times is just the mom n pop beloved kid while playing in his room. Just avoid having your real data on Facebook and the Net.... and do not buy online w/o being really careful.
