A 23-year-old Waseda University student was arrested on suspicion of stealing a pair of women's underwear in Nara City on Sunday. According to police, Nagayoshi Kanemoto, a fourth year political science and economics student at Waseda’s Fujimi City campus in Saitama, stole one pair of underwear from the first-floor veranda of an apartment in Nara City at around 1.30 p.m. on Sunday.

The woman living in the apartment saw Kanemoto take the underwear and run off, and called police, who stopped a man in the vicinity about 40 minutes later matching her description. Police found the underwear in his possession, and Kanemoto admitted to the allegation. The underwear was worth about 500 yen.

Police said Kanemoto had returned to Ikoma City in Nara to visit his family over the New Year.

Aha political science!! I'm decided my kids will never go to waseda!! Don't want them to become perverts!! Would much rather they went to Keio and became mellow.

Come home for the winter break, relax, and commit a bit of larceny. What a wonderful life university students lead.

He obviously learned a lot, in Saitama.

Plenty of women's underwear and lingerie available on the internet, why not just order it? No need to nick it.

He was broke and needed a New Years present for his sister. Hope they were clean.

Why do they not give more details about the type of underwear it was?Perhaps a photo? Hope it was worth it for him.Getting his name and details splashed around the media for this is hardly a good look.Keio kids getting busted for smoking pot,now this! Not the Japan I used to know

they probably were not her "man bait" knickers. a lot of woman buy cheap pants for "that time of the month", and that makes sense. Looks like Kanemoto struck out.

Remember a few weeks back some guy stole undies to sell so he could pay off some debts. Maybe this is the commodity of tomorrow? Buy soiled skivvie futures now!!!!

Only worth 500 yen?! I've been getting scammed at 1-man a pop...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

getting caught at the young age of 23. It usually takes another 10-15 years for Japanese men to develop these perversions...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Maybe he was planning to smoke them...

Is it relevant that this guy was a Waseda student? Why do they include this info in the headline? It wasn't during a school outing, was it?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sabiwabi -- same reason it is relevant when headlines state that it was a foreigner (fill in the country), or, a member of the U.S. armed forces. Waseda is perceived as the gold-standard for universities in Japan, so it is relevant that one of their prized students is a perv. Wonder if he'll get bounced like the guys caught with the pot were?

I wonder what is so special about women's underwear. It is not the first time that JT is reporting stories similar to that one. Are such men attracted or researching a new 'Japanese perfume?' I suggest that ladies hide their underwear perhaps even stop wearing them. I'm sure this student will never reach the Japanese politics, and he should change course to 'Lingerie Manager.' God job cops, you got him. Will this student walk free to continue his studies?

Ha. Ha. I have to laugh at the thought of this conversation:

"Mom. Dad. You know the years and years of sacrifice and millions and millions of yen you invested in my education ..."

Did they stop sellin' used female panties from vendin' machines?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

i agree with rudiguur - what a waste of time.

he might as well go all the way now - have the woman identify him in court

and have the panties thoroughly scrutinized. he could ask her all sorts of

questions under cross examination.

slow news day? ...zzzz

Waseda University student caught for underwear theft recently; in past three years, this university has had students caught with drugs or investigated for sexual assault. Time for the school administration to get a good citizenship course with compulsory volunteer time set up for all incoming new students plus a mandatory course on male-female relationships.

Otherwise we'll be reading about more students from "wasted" university.

What the heck is it with this panty fetish? I starting to think somehow guys in Japan are being influenced/taught to think that having a fetish for panties is somehow a cultural matter from a young age.

Why can't they be more interested in whats behind them instead of fantasizing where they've been?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I just don't get it. What use is an empty pair of panties? If there isn't a friendly woman in them they are just more laundry, as far as I'm concerned.

...the truth, he was trying on her underwear, and stealing was the quickest lie he could come up with!

What a way to screw up your future. Madness.

hereforenow: the gold standard? or the golden shower standard?

A strange hobby but hardly worth destroying the young man by naming and shaming him. This is scapegoating at its worst. Surely the police should have just cautioned him and made him apologise to the victim. He is small fry compared to much bigger problems that are far more embarassing to the Japanese government but perhaps concentrating on something trivial and mildly amusing for some diverts attention from issues that are a bit closer to home.

A far more serious problem would appear to be the underage sex industry that involves much younger children including police officers, government officials, university employees, and particularly teachers. This seems to be a greater threat to the fabric of Japanese society especially when you consider the rapid spread of STDs in recent years amongst very young people.
