Police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found floating in the Tama River in Ome, western Tokyo, on Saturday.
According to police, a passerby strolling along the river in the Yugimachi area called 119 at around 9:30 a.m. on October 21 after spotting “a leg floating in the water," Fuji TV reported.
Police rushed to the scene and retrieved the body of an adult woman clad only in her underwear.
According to police reports, the corpse was found along the riverbed with reeds fastened around the body and showed no signs of decay. Aside from a wound to her forehead, there were no other noticeable injuries. Furthermore, the woman’s clothing and personal belongings have yet to be discovered, police said.
Police are investigating the case as a possible homicide but have also not ruled out suicide.
