Woman, 2 granddaughters dead in apparent murder-suicide

The bodies of a woman and her granddaughters have been found at a residential property in Gunma Prefecture, in what police believe to have been a double murder-suicide.

According to police, the bodies of 65-year-old Kazue Urano and her granddaughters aged 9 and 7 were found by her husband at their home in Annaka at around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, TBS reported Monday. Police say marks on the girls' bodies were consistent with death by strangulation. Urano was found in an outhouse on the premises, having apparently hanged herself to death.

On the day of the incident, Urano's 36-year-old daughter-in-law had reportedly brought her daughters to their grandmother's house to play. Police believe Kazue Urano murdered her granddaughters before taking her own life.

I wish granny would have lived so that true justice could have prevailed - i.e. her swinging by a rope at a time chosen by others, not herself.

If you cannot even trust grandparents who can you really trust ?

The poor family, very sad that young children lost their lives. The above article should also mentioned the circumstances of the family, especially the live of the grandmother, why such an unfortunate incident happen?. such news will help other people to understand what were the reasons?

I wonder why this happened. The mother was asleep while this all happened in another room in the same house. Furthermore that they were 9 and 7 means that the children were physically strong, at least enough to escape or raise the alarm, so I think it would have had to take planning for the grandmother to have killed them both, rather than a fit of rage go wrong. This sounds like it could be some kind of Mother-in-Law-Mother battle. RIP.

How can you ever trust anyone if you cant trust your own mother-in-law to look after your children. My elderly mother-in-law looks after my kids of similar age for a couple of hours before I get home from work...Who to trust? It`s scary. R.I.P little ones may the angels be with you.

If this crazed old bat wanted to off her self then fine! But, why kill two little kids?

It's likely you have it backwards. In a fit of rage (for whatever reason) she strangles the kids, then as reason returns to her she realizes what she did and THEN decides to end her life.

I am appalled by this vile act by the grandmother. She strangled her little grandchildren, a crime of violence and evil. There can be no justification for such a horrible act of murder.

Welcome to Japan ladies and gentlemen!!

I think there are more into this story than we are being told. Mother would never leave her kids with the grandma if she suspected mental instability.

Maybe grandmad was tired of being the daycare? Maybe grandma was insane? Who knows but this kind of thing seems to be happening more often and it really is a sign that all is not well.

It's difficult to even comprehend the evil of some, did she hate her daughter-in-law, jealousy? Madness? JHC.

My daughters are the same age. How can you do that to children? The terror they must have felt as grandma strangled them. Too much!!!

Gosh...will there ever be an end in sight to this?? Grandparents aflicting parents. Poor little girls!! Just the feeling of suffocation is unbearable. Why the girls overnight? They were to play, not stay according to their mother. This tragic seems to have occurred during their sleep, being discovered at 04:30 a.m. RIP little ones....

"Police believe Kazue Urano murdered her granddaughters before taking her own life. "

As opposed to killing herself first?!

Sweet lord.... why?? If the kids are troublemakers or something you simply refuse to take them on (a grandparent, I mean, not parent). We have no information on the parents so no idea what home life was like, but I doubt the mother dropped off the kids with the intent of that being the last time to see them alive. As such I truly feel for the parents, and cannot understand what was going through the mind of this sick old woman. If she was intent on taking her own life she should have stopped there. Please you sick, sick people -- stop taking others with you!

Wake up Japan. Stop thinking it's normal to take other people along with you when you do yourself in.

@disillisioned

i can think of a few more adjectives and nouns to describe her, but this site is PG so they can't be written.

But what a tragic way to lose your children.

Again, and again and again we see this same scenario unfolding. If this crazed old bat wanted to off her self then fine! But, why kill two little kids? There are only two adjectives I can use, selfish and gutless!

Was it necessary to take along her grandchildren? Definitely not!

This is a terrible story!! I wonder if the girls' mother was too imposing... But nothing would justify the killings of such young girls!!! RIP poor girls!

Feel sorry for the children's parents.
