Woman, 37, arrested for stabbing 14-year-old son with knife after argument over PC

Police on Thursday morning arrested a 37-year-old woman for attacking her 14-year-old son after the two argued over his use of a personal computer late at night. According to police, the mother called police around 4:20 a.m., telling them she had stabbed her son with a knife in his room on the second floor of their house in Nerima.

The boy suffered minor injuries to his face and head, police said. The mother was quoted by police as saying, “I bought the PC for him a few days ago. But he's been using it all the time until the early hours of the morning and he wouldn't turn it off when I told him to. We argued about it, and I lost my temper."

and he wouldn’t turn it off when I told him to

So, I guess taking the cable that connects the computer to the wall was out of the question and went straight to stabbing... nutter!

Pull the cable out of the wall? That's one (sensible) way. If Junior simply plugged it in again, use the knife to cut the cable.

I promised to do that once when I thought son was spending too much time playing video games. Worked a treat, never had to tell him again.

Never, ever try to argue with someone when you're angry.

Well, I think a 14 year old boy can be quite intimidating to a single woman. There's no mention of a husband so I'm assuming she's single. Probably the little brat got intimidating and the only way she could enforce her will was to use force.

menopause? well he won't pretend he can't hear her anymore, he won't be able to unless he goes to visit her. Wonder if his Dad is a gamer?

If a woman finds her own 14-year-old son intimidating, she has much bigger problems than how long he spends on the computer.

"use the knife to cut the cable"

What! And get electrocuted?

How about not using a knife at all, and just turning off the circuit breaker. Then, next time he goes out, just take the computer.

The promise to do so should be enough. If you actually have to go through with it, I'd recommend unplugging the thing first. :-)

Turning off the circuit breaker means having to go around afterwards reseting all the clocks, timers, etc. Quick at the time I grant you, but way too much bother afterwards. Dark, too, in the early hours (when Junior shouldn't have even been awake, of course.) Eliminating the cable is the focussed, neat way to go.

Its probably a notebook too... so when you're stumbling around in the dark after cutting the power the only thing working would be that blasted PC.

cleo...look at it this way. The mom is intimidated (afraid) of her teenage son, and he refuses to leave the computer. Do you think he would stand there and allow her to get near the computer in the first place to unplug any cables? Just flip the breaker to that room, if the kid comes after you, leave the house and call the police.

how about put a password on the bios and also on the OS... Solves the problem with out violence and no breakers needed to be thrown.

Nippon5... Thats a start... that would mean the PC will be unusable until she logs in for him.. once its on though it can stay on until turned off.... so she then needs to create a non adminstrator account for him with minimum rights. She can login as admin install some automation software to automatically turn off the PC at designated times. Another option is a good ADSL router which only allows internet access at a certain time range.

Thank god it wasnt Saitama again. Close though, I wonder if the Saitama crime wave is spilling over? Seriousely though, not a woman to mess with.

ungrateful little snot deserves it. she probably worked her ass off to get it for him and he disrespects her, then may have used stand over tactics to get his way. glad she cut him up a bit.

Nice Romulus3! Pretty ridiculous she resorted to such drastic measures though. It just reflects the pressures most Japanese parents are under and their complete inability to deal with them. I hope the kid is OK and he enjoys his new foster home.

it's hot and people are tense and have short fuses. There have been more women going crazy than usual stories.

Mom attacking son with knife (how long...cm?) hard to believe.

serindipity, obvious sarcasm to say the least. just seeing it from her twisted point of view.

I wouldn't quite call him on the computer late at night a case of not respecting her. The article doesn't give all the details, but if she had told him not to use the computer and he disobeyed her she has probably told him similarily for other incidents and she didn't do anything about it then. We need more details to even make an assumption here about the kid or the mom but obviously it was the mom who committed a crime here. Who in their right mind would pick up a knife and stab their son/daughter, she certainly is out of her mind.

dude, it's the summer vacation. I probably didn't sleep the first 3 nights with my first computer. Let the kid hack away at the keyboard, eventually he will conk out. As for playing computer games non-stop until your dizzy or throw-up, well thats pretty much what I did through my teenage years as well as reading manga into the early mornings. Uni was probably worse since now everyone was doing the same thing that I mastered over the years. We vampires just hate the bright sun of the Japanese summer. It's got to be better than not knowing where you kid is at night rooming the streets...

cwhite, It's got to be better than not knowing where you kid is at night rooming the streets...

hell of a thing you said. It takes down everyones arguments. you are very right.

Why wont she cut the internet cable instead of stabbing his son. She is so out of her mind. Some psychiatrist doctors or psycho medicine needed here for the mom. Is She the real mom?

i'm surprised he wasn't playing World of Warcraft or it's japanese equivalent -- maybe he was just got caught up in some intensive research for a school related project >_>

as a way to limit his usage, she should just put the computer in the "family room" or somewhere out in the open so he loses his privacy while using it. Also, assuming the computer had internet, she should just use a regular old modem (without call waiting), nothing more frustrating than a slow internet connection that gets interrupted (possibly the best deterrent for prolonged usage).

A saying goes: if I can create you I can destroy you.

I believe that Dr. Sigmund Freud would explain this way: The mother was really trying to cut the umbilical cord between her and her son (and missed).

amannin1,

oh now every Japanese house wife are IT savvy geeks are they? especially the ones who knife their kids? They are real smart. All other IT guys who post ludicrous ideas on how a simple housewife could have manipulated the BIOS etc...shut up. This is a situation way beyond your simple realm. Hidden behind your PC too long me thinks.

Well now we have some clue as to why some people grow up and stab people as adults. At least in this case, stabbing if a form of parenting. I wonder how many of the recent stabbing criminals were also raised at the end of a knife.

romulus3,

what does putting a computer in an open room have to do with being computer savy? perhaps using the internal modem (if it had one) might fall into that realm, but otherwise, I would just assume that to be common sense.

i wonder how the relationship between the mother and the son is going to play out from this point -- i bet she had other episodes before this incident, so their relationship probably wasn't too solid to begin with.

i mean seriously though, if i was an enraged, possibly crazed parent, i would just grab the computer and break it to pieces...

Great upbringing techniques mom

What was she doing going up to his room WITH a knife? If you take it you at least mean to be able to use it.

What was wrong with the less expensive idea of cutting the mouse cable?

sounds like someone got a bit cranky while cooking dinner >_<

my mother has stormed into my room with kitchen utensils before... this is not uncommon for an angry mother to take whatever she has in her hands with her when she is enraged and start yelling. It's not known how it happened... but it could also be a case of her hitting him around while having the knife. If she was really THAT crazy and wanted to actually "stab" him... he would be dead and no one would be reading this because authorities wouldn7t find out until she gave in and killed herself... or if neighbors reported a strange odour.

Just take the pc and lock it away or sell it. Stabbing?! Come on, not that serious.
