Woman arrested for abandoning body of newborn infant in trash can

Police in Fukuoka have arrested a 20-year-old Vietnamese woman on suspicion of corpse abandonment after she put the corpse of her newborn baby in a trash can.

The suspect, who works in Japan as a technical intern trainee, gave birth to the baby at her boyfriend’s home sometime between 10:30 a.m. on Feb 2 and 11 a.m. the next day, Kyodo News reported. Following her arrest on Tuesday, the woman admitted to the allegation but said the infant was stillborn.

Police said the woman told them she put the corpse in a bag and placed it in a trash bin at the housing complex in Hakata Ward. After giving birth, she went to a hospital and said she had suffered a miscarriage at home. The hospital contacted police.

Police said the woman came to Japan last July and worked at a plant making bento boxes.

"A little education is in order.

JT a lot of people clearly lack an understanding of why a young woman might end up abandoning a newborn baby. They conclude that she is just a bad or 'evil' person. Can you consider including a note of education so people can have a better understanding?"

Bob, good job explaining various reason why she could have done it. Nonetheless, this tragedy could be avoidable even with the cheapest condom. Our actions have consequences.

It's hard to imagine that people are so easily duped by the editors. In this article, the editor conveniently throws out a non-Japanese nationality., "Vietnamese". Everybody takes the bait and jumps on her.

Meanwhile, this is happening in her boyfriend's home. Nationality kept secret. Why? Which nationality allowed this to take place in their own home? Who didn't take her to a hospital?

@JT Some of us are looking at the information you conveniently leave out.

This poor Vietnamese lady. They treat foreigners so bad here.

When a baby is born outside a medical clinic or hospital, it should be assumed that baby was born healthy and murdered. Even if the baby was actually stillborn, he.she could have been born healthy if the birth was given in a proper medical centre. So in any case, it’s a murder.

Didn't mention the boyfriend nationality - most likely Japanese guy

They never do in such circumstances but, Nimrod's Judgments wrathfully consumes.

More fuel for the move to make all international trainees use contraception.

@Redemption I TOTALLY disagree, this is what happens when two adults fail to be responsible when doing the do. In other words this seems to be an on going problem and nothing has been done about it, are you saying the authorities are making them very comfortable to do such.

This is what happens when foreigners don’t feel comfortable approaching the police or other authorities. This problem will continue.

Japan needs serious policy shift, as SO MANY childless couples would DIE to adopt such a newborn!

Easy tragedy to avoid while helping society, just a matter of policy leadership and courage. In reality, Govt. could turn this into a cash cow, start paying such women to give up their unwanted babies for adoption!

True story, old 80's couple in my building, has 3 boys, NONE married. But they adopted a newborn girl, she has 3 kids now, any guess who grandparents hang out with?!

Sorry to say, Vietnamese people are beginning to feature prominently in national crime stories. Perhaps they are not sending their best.

Sending their best to do what? Work for less than minimum wage in a bento factory?

seriously this is sickening.

Remember these are the same people who are threatened with deportation if they get pregnant. That sort of fear combined with the distress from miscarriage can definitely lead to irrational behavior.

Please do not judge someone who you know and cannot know about.

The reasons why she did this can be many but it's not that she is 'evil'.

If Fighto! cannot judge that she IS evil, how on earth can you judge that she is NOT?

Despicable. Even if the poor baby was stillborn - which has yet to be determined - disposing of a baby as if it was trash shows the evil of this woman.

Sorry to say, Vietnamese people are beginning to feature prominently in national crime stories. Perhaps they are not sending their best.
