Woman arrested for animal cruelty kept 58 pets in Tokyo home

Police in Tokyo have arrested a 46-year-old woman for violating the animal welfare law after she kept five dogs in inhumane conditions at her home in Ota Ward.

Aki Kuwazoe, a self-proclaimed fortune teller, had a total of 58 animals from 24 species, including dogs, iguanas and crocodiles, at her house when she was arrested this week, Sankei Shimbun reported. Kuwazoe told police she kept buying animals because she couldn’t spend any money on travel due to the coronavirus over the past 12 months. She was quoted as saying, “I couldn’t keep up with the demand of taking care of the animals anymore.”

Kuwazaoe lives alone in a two-story home in the Kamata district of Ota Ward. The malnourished dogs were allowed to roam on the first floor. Additionally, the center of the room was covered in trampled feces about two centimeters in height. The remaining animals were kept on the second floor in cages that contained decomposing food and feces.

The rescued animals have since been placed in the custody of a nongovernmental organization.

Imagine the smell of that place. Disgusting.

Explain this to me since I am obviously out of the loop on this subject.

If Aki Kuwazoe san is a fortune teller, why then couldn't Kuwazoe san see the future of this happening and stop buying many animals way before it happened?

"Aki Kuwazoe, a self-proclaimed fortune teller..."

What a selfish ill person, her home is probably filled with viruses too, I feel bad for the animals and her neighbors.

a self-proclaimed fortune teller

She didn’t see that coming.

Probably fewer scales than half the old fogies crawling about

She has some kind of mental illness for sure and maybe no one around to stop her. I feel bad for her but worse for those poor animals that had to live in such squalid conditions. The smell must have been horrific.

The crystal ball should reveal that I was too.

 a self-proclaimed fortune teller,

other fortune tellers are certified?

I was just about to have my min-morning snack, an exceedingly good apple pie. But that line has somehow ruined my appetite.

So, save the money?

Taking the cat lady meme to the extreme. Careful ladies, this is what awaits you if you put of marriage and having children too long.

Because fortune telling isn't real?

Oh god, I did not need to read this article while eating my lunch. Especially that third paragraph. Gross.

Reminds me of a situation where a lady had about 200 dogs and five horses in a house we rented out. All cramped and living on top of each other. Stunk like hell because poo and pee were everywhere. Eventually, police came and took all the animals and she was barred from owning pets again.

In a big black box through Osaka immigration?

There is a pet shop in Roppongi that sells crocs also one in Shinjuku, was really shocked to see it actually. Also seen banned Australian export birds in regular pet shops in Saitama, some people don't care it seems.

It's a private zoo. She just needs to hire a cleaner who doesn't hesitate to smell poo and a person who takes care of the pets like nanny. Two jobs created.

Sadly, this is not as rare as you might think. Animal rescue programmes on TV are full of cases like this.

AG,

Probably a very small miniature croc.

I can buy a crocodile easily here in Osaka Reptile Shops.

Jeez... and I thought my ex’s one cat smelled bad. Poor animals. Curious as to where to buy a crocodile in Japan though.

There's something wrong in Japan about any animal could possibly be a pet.

I saw people with monkeys, otters, and a lot with endangered species at home.

Animal TV shows yelling "kawaï" at wild animals in a zoo or as pets are a disaster.

i wonder if she had a snake for a pet and an amulet

I don't see it as being her call to make. She's not an elected official, and not the sharpest tool in the toolshed either.

Animal hoarders. Alas, this sort of thing happens everywhere.
