Police in Hirakata City, Osaka Prefecture, have arrested a 59-year-old woman on suspicion of arson after she set fire to her home.
Police said Mariko Nakanishi is accused of setting fire to her two-story wooden home, causing the entire structure to be completely burned down, on Saturday morning, Sankei Shimbun reported.
Nakanishi told police she used a gas stove in her kitchen to set a futon on fire, which caused approximately 200 square meters of her home to become engulfed in flames.
Police said Nakanishi called them after realizing the danger of the fire spreading to neighboring residences.
Nakanishi’s family members were able to get out of the house and no one suffered any injuries.
Police quoted Nakanishi as saying, "I was having trouble with my husband over the registration of the house. I thought that if I burned the house down and cleared the land, that would settle the dispute."

Some people's thought process amazes me.
The full meaning of "registration of the house" might be lost in translation but...you could have killed your whole family, among other things. You thought burning down the house would settle the dispute? Clear thinking was probably never one of her strong suits.

Communication does not work when greed and selfishness are in the way.

is this woman of sound mind or is she just a ghastly fiend? Well, we will probably never know, we don’t get many follow ups to crimes on this site do we?
