Woman arrested for attempted murder after slashing tourist in Osaka shop

A 34-year-old woman has been arrested at a discount store in Osaka on suspicion of attempted murder after she slashed another woman with a knife, police said Sunday.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sankei Shimbun reported. Miki Matsuoka, a resident of Kagawa Prefecture’s Takamatsu City, was apprehended at Don Quijote’s Umeda Honten (Main Store) in Kita Ward, after slashing the back of the head of a 31-year-old female Chinese tourist on a staircase inside the discount store. The victim was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries.

A male customer in his 30s heard the victim cry out and subdued Matsuoka. Police said Matsuoka has admitted to the charge and quoted her as saying: “I bought a kitchen knife to kill someone. I didn’t like the attitude of the woman who I spoke to, so I thought of killing her.”

Police said Matsuoka and her victim were not acquainted.

And the stressed out but bar award of the day goes to....

Japan really needs to address the number of b cluster personally disorders it has walking the streets.

Most likely a fit of jealousy in tandem with violent desires to injure others.

Mental health services need investing in. Hope the victim recovers fast from this incident.

I'm guessing she bought the knife there and used it right away.

There are more tourists than Japanese there from what I can tell (I confess to going occasionally). So the victim may have just been the first person she saw.

This kind of incident happens quiet often in Japan, a strict society combined with many unwritten rules and pressure from the system gives such results.

Japan needs to relax in several aspects, starting with it’s working culture.

And also as to give more dignity to psychiatrists because a healthy mind is as much important as a healthy body.

"Japan really needs to address the number of b cluster personally disorders it has walking the streets."

a lot of foreigners like Don Quijote’s "“I bought a kitchen knife to kill someone. " oh boy better not do that near the US embassy..with Donald trump in office.

Things are getting worse with these random crazies.

"Things are getting worse with these random crazies."

you can see these crazies, drunks, freaks, vagrants walking around snooping, loitering, prowling, looking for trouble etc; especially on weekends, their crazed facial expressions, hateful frowns etc, shoddy attire and lack of grooming, smell, etc, are a dead give away, and they can roam virtually unchecked, and even pass by those unsuspecting law boxes. until they do something bad, which in most cases is much too late.

“I bought a kitchen knife to kill someone. I didn’t like the attitude of the woman who I spoke to, so I thought of killing her.”

So, tell me again the mental health care and Japanese psych within the society. Perhaps, just perhaps, the stresses of living in a 'do as you are told without question' society are creating so many of these homicidal loons who decide to kill at random. .

...female Chinese tourist ....."I didn’t like the attitude of the woman who I spoke to......”

There's your reason, right there. The prc china-nese women have the trait of pissing off everyone (even other Chinese) no matter where they go.

From my observation, they are loud, demanding, unreasonable ( esp when it comes to shopping), cut queues, don't apologize after bumping into others and tend to slap the sales counter table top while demanding something.

Can't blame the Japanese woman for reacting. And not surprised that Hong Kong women refer to them as "locusts"

"I didn’t like the attitude of the woman who I spoke to, so I thought of killing her.”

From this sentence I take it that these two women shared some words, and lets be honest many Chinese people are rude, inconsiderate and selfish. Just the other day I was in a government building talking with a staff member and about 20 people were in the waiting room when a Chinese lady started talking loud on her cell  phone then started screaming on the phone she continued screaming for several minutes. The staff member and I could not hear each other because of the screaming. Eventually she was kick out of the building. So I can understand the anger Miki Matsuoka felt towards this Chinese women.

Don Quixote's crazy business model attracts a lot of unusual people to the store. I am surprised that it doesn't happen more often especially in the Mega stores / 24hr stores.

This happens occasionally in Osaka, last year someone was stabbed on the train as it pulled into Taisho Station because the day before they'd been disrespectful (mildly by the sounds of it) and I've seen fights in Osaka Station. Osaka eh

That sounds more like an Osaka thing.

Yeah right, no way, more like fed up like a lot of customers and store owners with tourist who bring their attitudes with them rather than leave em at home.

Obviously the attacker has serious issues but...why take it on a by-passer? Need to watch my 6-o'clock from now on - you never know!

If it weren't for the foreign tourists, many of whom are from China, and all of whom seem to be in Don Quixote at the same time, a lot of Osaka merchants would be out of business.

Wow, not quite the "omotenasu" they tried to make a catch-phrase when pitching the Olympics. Foreign tourists beware!
