Police in Tsuchiura, Ibaraki Prefecture, have arrested a 22-year-old woman on suspicion of attempted murder after she tried to flush her newborn son down the toilet bowl at her apartment last year.
According to police, Miu Fujii, of unknown occupation, gave birth to the boy in the toilet at her home at around 8:30 a.m. on Nov 2, Kyodo News reported. She then tried to force the infant down the toilet bowl but it didn’t flush.
After that, Fujii -- who lives alone -- called 119 and reported what she had done.
The infant did not suffer life-threatening injuries and is currently being looked after at a welfare facility.
Police said Fujii has not provided any information on who the father of the child is, or if he even knew that Fujii was pregnant.

This is the 2nd news of this kind this week only.
For some reasons those are becoming weekly news. Mother killing her children or babies; foreigner dying in Police custody; Japanese person jumping in front of trains (those are so many, they are no longer covering into news).
Guess what is the root cause of all this?

Oh no! Not again. Thankfully the poor innocent infant survived.
We need more help for women like this, social services is rubbish here.

*Poor, pathetic woman. But how could she even think of doing that to her new born baby? She must have been too frightened of being found out.
She needs to be re-united with her child. And given every help and support. Poor, pathetic woman.*

The name-calling is not constructive or accomplishes anything. There are underlying societal issues that drive a mother to try to flush her baby - where is the community accountability here? Where is her support circle?

Don't return the child to that woman! That would only spell disaster!
