Police in Misato, Saitama Prefecture, said Tuesday they have arrested an unemployed 24-year-old woman on suspicion of attempted murder after she tried to suffocate her 11-month-old son.

According to police, Sachi Sato pressed her son's face down against a blanket at their apartment at around 12:20 a.m. on Monday, Fuji TV reported. Police said Sato’s husband told them the boy was alright when he and his wife went to bed on Sunday night.

Sato’s husband noticed that the child was unconscious when he got up at around 6:30 a.m. Monday and called 119. The baby temporarily went into cardiopulmonary arrest but managed to regain spontaneous breathing after being tended to by ambulance personnel. He was taken to hospital where doctors said he may have suffered brain damage.

Police said Sato, who tried to commit suicide on Nov 18, was taken to hospital that day but returned home. They said she has admitted to trying to kill her baby and quoted her as saying she was tired of child-rearing and wanted to be “free of my responsibility.”

So she try to kill herself, is taken to the hospital and sent back home immediately, and try to kill her baby the very next day.

Don't they have psychiatrists there ??? Isn't that an extreme case of depression that could have been easily detected ?

I'm no doctor, but something feels off to me.

Most Hospitals don't have a Psychiatrist on the Staff, many hospitals are specialized here.

My guess she was taken to the ER and was discharged as soon as her physical health was asserted.

Nothing mentioned if the ER referred her to a psychiatrist.

It’s unacceptable that someone who has just attempted suicide should be returned home and be caring for an infant immediately afterwards. I wonder if the hospital was aware of the presence of the infant?

So give the little one up for adoption you stupid cow. Why try to kill him? And now you gave him brain damage. I hope you rot in Jail.

Now that is just awful.

I just read a story about a "mother" who deserted her two kids in her apartment because she didn't want to take care of them anymore and they starved to death even though CPS came by to check on them but didn't enter the house except for the police.

That "mother" is serving 30 to life as of right now.

You can't imagine the number of people who think everything should be pleasure for them and no burden/responsibilty ever That is what they were believe life to be : mostly only child, no critical opinion from anyone, no mental support, parents abandoning education...

Leads to this situation.

I doubt she tried to kill herself, more likely she was trying to get attention and help for the issues she had which can be hard to do in Japan. Killing the baby of course will get instant attention and more than likely no custodial repercussions, so thats she decided to do. Luckily the baby survived but will be some time before the extent of any brain damage can be properly assessed.
