Woman arrested for attempting to kill husband with methanol-laced drink

Police in Nishinomiya, Hyogo Prefecture, have arrested a 48-year-old woman for allegedly attempting to poison her husband by enticing him to drink alcohol laced with methanol, an antifreeze chemical.

Fusako Okawa, who was arrested Wednesday, is accused of mixing the toxic chemical into an alcoholic drink and offering it to her husband, 59, at their home earlier this week, Fuji TV reported.

On March 6, the husband fell seriously ill while he was out and was taken to a hospital, where he fell into a coma. According to police, he is still in a critical condition and is unconscious.

The case came to light after doctors at the hospital notified police that tests on the man showed that he may be suffering from poisoning.

Okawa was quoted by police as saying that she put the methanol into her husband’s drink, but she did not intend to murder him.

So her intention was to....what? Tickle him from the inside?

Oh wow, really? So the purpose was, what exactly?

Put a poisonous substance in the husbands drink and didn't want him to die? So what was the purpose of the woman?

So what was the purpose of the woman?

Trying to cut down on liquor expenses?

ethylene glycol (EGW) or propylene glycol (PGW). The use of ethylene glycol has a longer history, especially in the automotive industry.

The above are antifreeze components. But, methanol can be added to the above too. Heavy science.

The stuff has a distinct taste however. Sweet. Dogs often die from lapping up spillage of it.

So, what were your intentions you psycho biatch! However, on the other hand, there is no information on what sort of husband this guy was. It's quite likely he was an abusive alcoholic oyaji. You would have to drink quite a bit of methanol to suffer severe poisoning and go into a coma. I'm pretty sure he had more than one laced drink. One teaspoon of methanol might make you a bit sick, but ten teaspoons mixed into his evening oblitoration of sho-chu would certainly give him a hangover to remember (or recover from while he's in a coma).

Um, sounds difficult to believe he will recover consciousness. Nevertheless, hopefully, he will come around in some way...

Now why hadn't I thought of that all those years ago... ?

As Disillusioned says :

Wife got fed up of being physically harassed by the husband that she planned to poison him? OR Husband caught cheating..

These are the two that comes into my mind...

I don't know about Japan, but in certain parts of the world, the intent to cause GBH is enough to put her away for murder (assuming the husband dies).

Right, she ran out of alcohol in the house and wanting to keep her husband happy she decided to give his evening shochu a little more kick.

Methanol is in fact used in antifreeze....

just wanted a maim him a bit...

I pray the hospital figured out what it was quickly, otherwise even if he survives he will likely be permanently blind and have other neurological deficits. Alcohol is an antidote but they have to give it before it is to late or the optic nerve will be destroyed, and continue until the methanol is cleared.

Methanol is wood alcohol. It has a different chemical structure than ethanol, which is what humans drink (To Excess!!!)

She just intended to warm him up with some antifreeze as it was bit chilly outside?

Or if she just wanted him to stop drinking booze, her method certainly worked. He'll be lucky if he ever drinks anything again.

Redrum most foul. (Spell it backwards)

Murder your baby, get internet sympathy. Merely attempt to murder your husband, no sympathy. Why?
