Woman arrested for attempting to steal cash card from elderly man

Police in Yokohama have arrested a 26-year-old woman on suspicion of attempted fraud after she pretended to be a police officer to convince a man in his 70s to hand over his ATM card.

According to police, Arisa Fujii, who is from Hokkaido and a self-professed sex industry worker, was arrested on Monday, Fuji TV reported. Police said Fujii allegedly conspired with another as-yet unidentified accomplice between May 29 and June 1. The accomplice contacted the targeted man, who lives in Totsuka Ward, and said he was a police officer. He told the intended victim, “Your bank account has had an unauthorized transaction. We will need [to collect] your cash card.”

However, the man was suspicious and contacted police. Fujii visited the man’s home at around 11:30 a.m. Monday, saying she was from the police, and asked the man to give her his ATM card for security purposes. Police who were waiting outside arrested Fujii.

When in doubt, always contact the authorities to verify.

GOOD FOR HIM... Finally a good story about the elderly fighting back against theses fraudsters. I hope she gets put away, and none the usual suspended sentence BS!

self-professed sex industry worker

Is that how she said it?

We all need to watch out for scams due to COVID 19 since many people are without jobs now. People are getting desperate.

I imagine business is slow with the lockdown, and those debts to the host clubs that are frequented by many sex workers don't pay themselves not to mention regular bills. The male companion probably did it before because they were smart enough to send her instead going themselves.

Sending a woman in plain clothes that probably looked young was probably the reason the old man doubted them. I believe if it was man in a suit then the old man would have been more trusting.

Dumb and dumber strike again. A self professed sex worker? I bet she said that with pride too. Lock this piece of filth up.

It seems the "scammers" are getting more aggressive and desperate and up close and personal more than the usual "ore ore" phone scammers.

"Police who were waiting outside"

that's getting better, take a bite bigger bite out of crime.

GREAT job by the elderly gentleman ….. As for the Sex Worker I wonder if she has a Take a Number Machine like in Basket Robins & the Banks ??? Sad to say but she'll get off with a slap on the wrist and then she'll be at it again scamming another elderly person.

But a nonJN will get the book thrown at em, as usual.

@admin: sorry, but there is no Tokatsu Ward in Yokohama. It's Totsuka.

Moderator: Thank you. That has been fixed.

Sex industry is run by criminal syndicates of course its worker's side hustles won't have any scruples about ripping off innocent citizens.

Sounds like she was the fall guy (girl) for the scammers. They made the phone call; she was just sent to pick up the card.

Brilliant scam. I am truly surprised it wasn't a huge success. Now, suppose they did get the cash card, then what? Call him again for the PIN? I guess they target people who have dementia or who happen to be imbeciles.

That guy was neither an imbecile nor had dementia, so we know who the real imbeciles were.

Is that the way the Vory would do it back home?

Of course they'd ask him for it. Actually, this has worked quite well for the scammers for a while; just a variation of the ore-ore thing.

expatToday 10:00 am JSTWhat is "a self-professed sex industry worker"?

My guess would be that she isn't working for the yakusa but on her own.

Yeah, and she is STUPID.
