A 55-year-old woman has been arrested for beating her husband to death at their residence in Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture, police said Friday.

According to police, Orie Sakamoto called 119 on Thursday morning, saying that her husband had stopped moving. Police went to the apartment and found her husband Toshio, 55, unconscious and bleeding heavily from the head, Fuji TV reported. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said Orie has admitted to beating her husband with a blunt object between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Wednesday. She was quoted as saying she had recently been having a lot of trouble with her husband.

@disillusioned How do we know the wife wasn't an abusive woman?

Being a domestic violence survivor, I can speak personally on this one. My first wife beat and tortured me for years (don't ask me why I put up with it for so long) until one day she looked me straight in the eye and said flat out "I'm gonna kill you, I don't care how much trouble I get in or how long I go to jail for". I turned to leave, having had enough by that point, that's when she cracked me in the back of the head with a hammer. Fortunately it was a glancing blow and I survived with only a few staples in my scalp.

During the counseling afterward, they told me the ratio of domestic violence cases committed by men/women is 60/40, but most men don't report it because it's embarrassing.

@disillusioned How do we know the wife wasn't an abusive woman? Society tends to always point the finger at the man when a woman loses control . It may have been the other way round. And to answer your question, yes. She murdered her husband, she deserves the rope.

We have no idea of the specifics. However, Hitchcock has bought the rights to the story. It's tentative title is Compression. Justified was already taken. What kind of courts does Japan have? Civil and criminal? Juries?

I can't really understand why the husband wouldn't fight back.

Maybe he did.

I think he should have contained her at best.

Maybe he couldn't.

We have no idea of the specifics.

Bingo.

We don't have the background info on most likely we will never know.

What if the husband was an abusive and violent monster

Hmmm. We never hear "what if the wife was an abusive or violent monster" whenever a husband murders a wife.

If you're a woman married to such a man, you leave the bastard. Last time I checked, domestic violence wasn't a capital offense.

If she had killed in self-defense, okay -- different story. But an act of self-defense usually doesn't last for four hours.

She didn't claim he was abusive or violent, according to the story. She only said that she "had trouble" with him. For all we know, the "trouble" could have been that he left empty beer cans around the house.

and this killing was revenge for years of abuse?

Revenge is never an acceptable excuse for murder. Not in the eyes of the law, anyway.

Plus, studies show that women commit at least as many violent acts against their husbands/live-in boyfriends, as the other way around. When was the last time a man claimed "revenge" for killing a violent, abusive wife/girlfriend?

And please, don't say there aren't violent or abusive wives or girlfriends. If that's what you think, re-read the previous paragraph.

I wonder how long they had been married? Did they have children?

@gaijin playa - horrible witch. poor guy. give her the death penalty.

Hmm, are you sure about that? You would wish the death penalty on this woman not knowing any of the circumstances prior to the murder? What if the husband was an abusive and violent monster and this killing was revenge for years of abuse? Would you still condemn her to death? There are always two sides to a story and one should not make such outlandish claims based on the little information at hand.

Lady, if you beat someone for 4 hours expect them to stop moving.
