Police in Koshu, Yamanashi Prefecture, have arrested a 32-year-old woman on suspicion of corpse abandonment after she buried her newborn daughter on the grounds of a temple near her home.

According to police, Mai Suyama said that she felt guilt toward her newborn baby and buried her at Kiyomizu-dera, Kyodo News reported. The decaying body was found at around 2 p.m. on Feb 8 by a woman visiting the temple. Police said an autopsy could not determine the cause of death.

The temple is located in an area surrounded by vineyards and peach orchards about 2 kilometers west of JR Enzan Station.

Police said Suyama told them she buried the body at the temple in early November 2023. After receiving information from an outside source, police detained her for voluntary questioning on Sunday.

What happens to these poor women who are so desperate and unsure what to do?

Please don't tell me they go to prison.

Absolutely ridiculous thing to say.

She is in her 30s. Not some teenager.
