Woman arrested for disposing of infant’s body at trash disposal site

Police in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, on Tuesday arrested a 23-year-old Thai woman on suspicion of abandoning the body of a newborn baby boy at the trash disposal site of an apartment building last month.

Police said the woman, who lives in the building in Nakahara Ward, has admitted to the charge, Kyodo News reported. They quoted her as saying she gave birth to the infant at around 7:45 p.m. on April 19 and then later took the baby down to the trash disposal site. An employee of the apartment management company discovered the body at around 12:50 p.m. the next day.

The building, which is about about 600 meters northwest of Musashi-Kosugi Station along the JR Nambu Line, has five floors. The trash disposal site is located on the first floor behind the entranceway but anyone coming from the outside needs to pass through an auto lock door to get to the trash disposal area.

Police said building surveillance camera footage showed the woman carrying a bag near the scene.

No further information was released on the cause of the infant's death or who the father of the baby was.

@Sven Asai TOTAL EXCUSE, mothers don't see a future for themselves, don't include the "baby". She was being totally selfish!! Then ask those mothers what were they thinking during the heat of the moment? The child can't answer that question, because the child didn't asked to be born or be treated like trash!! Panic my arse excuse me, there is a thing called a condom, or perhaps contraceptives!!! The mother or father can't make and economic excuse for not protecting themselves or an unwanted birth!! You mentioned panicking in the moment when the baby is there what the HECK!! The panic should have been there when she realized what she was doing without protecting herself. Now think about that child she dumped in the trash do you think he was under stress? We will never know what his psychological mindset was as he laid probably in rubbish to die with no love and caring. Do you think she care psychologically no!! I don't know of any DOG that would give birth to their pups and leave them, they will fight to their death to protect them. Throw this women in Jail!!!

That’s a worldwide phenomenon and the problem is difficult to solve because those mothers don’t see a future for themselves and the babies for any reason, maybe mostly economic ones, and in addition they are panicking in the moment when the baby is really there and visible , so they are in an extraordinarily stressful psychological situation.

Many years ago you could take unwanted babies to the fire station and they would take care of it.

Like the Baby Moses Law they have in the States where you can drop a baby off at a fire station or hospital? Can you do that in Japan? If not they should introduce it and baby hatches to prevent incidents like this from happening. How horrible and desperate must one be to dump a human being, a baby, like so much trash.

Another baby dumped in the trash. It’s a shame there is only one baby hatch in all of Japan. It gets used often too. They should be everywhere in Japan. Many years ago you could take unwanted babies to the fire station and they would take care of it.

It’s so sad that people in todays society can just throw a baby in the trash or flush it down the toilet.

Recall this sad news from Apr 20 and such disregard for a human body. This is one incident where it’s believable just the surveillance cameras alone led police to the specific culprit. Still, seems another account of a desperate person in desperate times doing desperate things. Looking for the followup story, if any:

- “No further information was released on the cause of the infant's death or who the father of the baby was.” -
