Police in Saitama City have arrested a 25-year-old woman on suspicion of abusing her 3-year-old daughter by burning her with a hair iron.
According to police, Asuka Honma, who works in an adult entertainment establishment, abused her daughter by pressing the hot hair iron against her right arm at their apartment at around 7 p.m. on Aug 3, Sankei Shimbun reported. An employee at the child’s daycare center noticed the injury and asked what had happened. The girl said her mother had done it.
Staff contacted a child welfare center and the girl was taken into protective custody in early September. Police said it took about two weeks for her arm to heal.
Police said Honma, who was arrested on Thursday, has denied the charge and is saying nothing about the incident. She lived alone with her daughter who is now four.

Oh my... whoever's done that, how can you... I mean, a 3-4-year-old little girl is among one of the most vulnerable beings on the entire world. Whoever does that is a coward.

So, it’ll be 3 months in a few days. Why now? Nothing else to sensationalize? Why not 3 months ago..OK 2 ½ months ago. Police might have had a soft spot for the mother.

This woman abused her child and that is reason enough for the vitriol in these comments but also....
1). No need to assume women who work in the sex industry are automatically scum. Sometimes you need to do what you need to do to take care of yourself and/or your family.
2). Being that some people do work nights, in many industries (police, nursing, factory work, supermarket/convenience store etc), Japan has nursery schools that take care of children overnight. A single mother can work nights and not be abandoning her at night.
