A 37-year-old woman from Yodogawa, Osaka Prefecture, has been arrested on suspicion of killing her 6-year-old son in what police believe may have been a murder-suicide attempt.
According to police, at around 7:25 p.m. on Sunday, a man walking along the Kanzaki river in Osaka’s Toyonaka Ward, encountered a woman, clad in wet clothes near the river, Sankei Shimbun reported. The woman told him that she “couldn’t die together with her child.” The man notified emergency services immediately and approximately 40 minutes after they launched a search in the river, they found the boy in a state of cardio-respiratory arrest. He was taken to a hospital, but was pronounced dead shortly after.
The mother is suspected of having suffocated her son at around 7:15 p.m. on the same night, after which she threw his body in the river. Police also believe that the woman tried to kill herself by jumping in the river but couldn't go through with it.

In these murder-suicide cases if they really have to go through with it then it might be better to get the suicide part of it over with first.

I really dont mind the suicide / dying together part, as long as they reverse the order and kill themselves FIRST. Geez.. such morons. Another life wasted by a selfish and coward mother.

She must have really hated herself and saw her son as the instrument of her terrible life. How about the husband/father? Was he an abuser or a nice guy? Was she forced into this marriage by controlling parents? Don't try suicide, nobody cares.

. . . again? I never understood the Japanese mums logic behind this. If they just committed suicide on their own -then that's on them. But they (have this false pretense) believe their child would be a "burden" on others.

Horrible.
@Fizzbit,
Theres a good chance she just swept the child away from the dad and he couldnt do a thing about it. Japanese mothers and their perceived ownership of children is despicable.

no excuse for this woman... she has said (according to Japanese news) that she has had troubles with her neighbors and got tired of it and wanted to die. so lame..

ANOTHER mother killing her child in a selfish and cowardly act, and then claiming she wanted to die with her child but suddenly couldn't go through with it. PLEASE reverse the order, ladies! Better yet, if you reach the point in your life where you feel you must die, leave others out of it -- children in particular may want to go on living and don't subscribe to your suicidal thoughts and playing god. Even better still would be to seek help and avoid it altogether.
But, since she couldn't manage to put her children before herself, and MURDERED him, lock her up for life. See if maybe she likes that better than her life before hand. And throw a picture of the child into the cell that she must see every day.

This is in the news so often a bit too much RIP Little Boy there is no way that you deserved that no matter what the circumstances.May this lady spend long time in jail for what she has done how about a whole life time that she took from her own son would be justice. But knowing Japan don't think that is going to happen sadly another life goes to waste another murderer will more than likely not get the punishment they deserve..

I've heard too many such stories recently. Is the welfare system really that bad here?

Another week, another child being killed. Maybe one day the government will wake up and actually start doing something about helping these mothers who are obviously in desperate need of help.

So sad for the boy.

You know government policies aren't working when young, elders and disabled are suffering the most.

I wouldn't hold my breath with this admin. Nope, everyday we'll get to read about another cry for help gone wrong.
She didn't. She tried murder.

When will this child-killing end!?

Never. It's a sad part about humanity, but people killing their children has been an issue that has plagued us since the beginnings of time, and will continue to do so until the end. The best we can try to do is minimize it. It's impossible to eliminate.

Sadly, you're right again Strangerland. If you read Dante's Inferno, you'll understand more about the "why".

Yes it is. It's gotten to the point where I hate looking at the news anymore. Everyday, I look at the Yahoo website and see more and more kids being killed by their parents (or) stepparents everyday, all around the world. For instance, there was a case of a woman in the U.S. soaking her four year-old stepson in boiling water and letting him die a slow and painful death. Makes me sick to my stomach and wishes that all children would be able to born to and raised by good people.
