A 37-year-old woman from Yodogawa, Osaka Prefecture, has been arrested on suspicion of killing her 6-year-old son in what police believe may have been a murder-suicide attempt.
According to police, at around 7:25 p.m. on Sunday, a man walking along the Kanzaki river in Osaka’s Toyonaka Ward, encountered a woman, clad in wet clothes near the river, Sankei Shimbun reported. The woman told him that she “couldn’t die together with her child.” The man notified emergency services immediately and approximately 40 minutes after they launched a search in the river, they found the boy in a state of cardio-respiratory arrest. He was taken to a hospital, but was pronounced dead shortly after.
The mother is suspected of having suffocated her son at around 7:15 p.m. on the same night, after which she threw his body in the river. Police also believe that the woman tried to kill herself by jumping in the river but couldn't go through with it.© Japan Today
