Police in Niikappu, Hokkaido, have arrested a 45-year-old woman on suspicion of murder after she used a cassette gas torch burner to set fire to the head of her 41-year-old common-law husband.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 1:15 a.m. Sunday, local media reported. Police said Asami Koga has admitted to setting fire to the head of Akihiko Sekiya.

Police quoted Koga as saying she had been out drinking all night and after she came home in a taxi, she got into an argument with Sekiya. She said that, on impulse, she threw some heating oil at Sekiya and then used the torch burner to ignite it.

Koga called 119 and Sekiya was taken to hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

What a loony

That's cold-blooded

She really went medieval just because of booze. Poor guy. String her up like a teru teru bozu, she earned it

Throw the key into the abyss. This is cruel and disgusting.

8 ( +16 / -8 )

But it’s ok, she didn’t know what she was doing because she was drunk at the time.

if she had pushed the guy “out of impulse” that out be another story, no matter how drunk/angry/out of my mind, I can’t even imagine myself doing such a premeditated evil act as dozing someone with gas and set it alight or ramming my car against someone. This person is evil. Booze is not an excuse.

A "cassette gas torch burner" is a small blow torch used to light charcoal for barbecues. Its a murder weapon, not an "I'll get one over him" weapon. If she was drunk and throwing around kerosene as well, she's lucky she didn't start a fire that also killed herself and possibly more people.

Woman and killed family member. So what are we looking at here, a 4-5 year sentence?

8 ( +14 / -6 )

That’s some impulse, lady. She should get the rope for such a heinous crime, but I suppose life in prison to control her impulses is all she’ll get.

That’s pretty brutal.

Holy smoke! (pun intended) This chick has some real issues.

As much as I hate Japanese cops, I feel sorry for the officers who first responded. You would never forget that smell.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

Horrible but who knows what had happened in her life to do such things.

She clearly needs mental health services, as do the men who regularly call for Japanese women to be killed.

-6 ( +5 / -11 )

Used to date a girl like her once.

Nice bit of Monday morning misogyny on display by the usual crowd. Calling for a woman to be strung up and making sick jokes. Not a thought for what she might have been put through by this man to do such a terrible deed? Try a little understanding for once in your miserable lives.

Sounds like one of the most painful ways of dying.

Was about to type "watch someone try to perform some impressive mental gymnastics and somehow blame it on the man", but I see that's already taken care of. Good job.

Ego Sum,

.....OK on ONE condition, now courts worldwide re-open cases where a man was violent & take into account what the women actually did.....how about it, yeah right thought so carry on. Women sadly very rarely take much responsibility for what they do, guess you want women to be able to torch men & then blame the men for getting burnt....OUCH!!!

My ex stayed all night drinking once. Came home in the morning and I was annoyed because she was drunk. Had a small argument, she pushed me and then passed out. And I thought she was crazy! Jeez. Poor guy.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

I was thinking, 'Heating oil?' then I realized it had said Hokkaido in the beginning of the article. Never sing that line, 'C'mon baby light my fire' to her.

Occasionally, I find myself in agreement with you. This is one of those times.

Well said.

So it's Misogony to hold women to the same standard as men when committed terrible crimes?. What you are saying is women are not responsible adults and cannot be accountable for their own actions, it must be the man's fault.

Absolutely insane logic.

This chick has some real issues.

What do you mean by "chick"?

-9 ( +3 / -12 )

@toasted heretic

Chick is a word used for women. (The female of the human species, the ones born with female genetalia and a womb and the potential to birth children).

This murder in Niikappu, Hokkaido is so gruesome.

So many horrible and grotesque murders in japan.

At 45 she's not a chick but obasan.

Chick is for much younger girls.

Once the booze in here blood system has disbursed, she's going to wake up in a cold cell, then the cold reality of what she's done will start to sink in.

Try this exercise: get a 20 litre jerry can,

Clearly you don't understand the power of kerosene. There is a reason why its the heating of oil of choice. Per volume it is massively filled with stored energy. All that is required to do this is about half a rather small cup. Maybe less. The pillar of flame would be so great I am surprised she didn't start a fire that burned the house or apartment building down. All she had to do was throw the kerosene at him just like she said she did. No chasing required and no need to hold anything over their head.

He was also drunk and didn't really have somewhere to go. She could set upon him right after that, which brings us to....

rip the gas cannister out of the portable konro

I don't think a gas cassette torch burner is a konro but.... If any flame or spark can be emitted as is all she had to do was get the spark or flame close to his head. The thing is portable, small, and light. In fact it may have already been lit with canister inside as it would need to be to have full flame. A portable ring of fire.

What Ego Sum Lux Mundi said

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

@Vanessa, where in the article did it say he was drunk?

5 ( +5 / -0 )

I am aware of the properties of kerosene. It will not burn unless atomized or soaked in a rag (or clothing in this case) which creates the effect of a wick.

Incorrect. Kerosine AKA parrafin, is highly combustible and will ignite if it comes into contact with a flame.

This is psychotic!

Vile emotions bring out the beast in both sexes. The dark side of "love" can be truly terrifying as even the courting habits of spiders can confirm.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Bungle,

I have a fire pit here & often get a little fire going & sit back & enjoy a cold one or two, I often start said fire by just sprinkling a little kerosene on MUCH LESS than a cup someone mentioned above, let me assure the fire starts very easily!!

I wouldnt do the above with gas as it is much MUCH more volatile but kerosene ignites & burns very easily, dousing someone & hitting them with a torch I can assure you would insanely dangerous as the article clearly illustrates, the man is DEAD!

3 ( +3 / -0 )

We do not know if Sekiya was drunk or not,

Correct. My bad. I read the article after waking up and did not reread before posting. I thought it said "they" had been out drinking earlier. (sly edits do happen though).

I am aware of the properties of kerosene. It will not burn unless atomized or soaked in a rag (or clothing in this case) which creates the effect of a wick.

Well this is interesting. I once had some very old kerosene that I needed to get rid of. I put it in a wheelbarrow a little at a time and it spread out and lit easily and produced a huge pillar of flame. But looking at youtube videos what you say is true. I cannot explain the disparity. Is Japanese kerosene different?

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

@Bungle Well, perhaps it both wicked in his hair AND atomized/ evaporated for being spread so thinly over the surface of his head, face and neck?

Or do you have an alternate explanation? It was actually a different flammable liquid perhaps? He must have been totally unconscious while she doused and lit him up? It never happened?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Presumably the guy was lying on a futon half asleep when she attacked him. The torch may have simply been used in place of a match or lighter, but the fact remains that she threw an inflammable liquid on him and deliberately lit it. That is a lot of intent.

Mini torches are very handy for cooking, searing meat, doing creme brulee, etc. So its not weird to have one set up and ready to go.

Man........either he done some really bad stuff, or she's......

Nope, just stay away from her. No matter what.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I dont know how any one could do such a thing to another living creature, nevermind another human being.

She should be executed the exact same way she killed that man.
