Police in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture, have arrested a 56-year-old woman on suspicion of murdering her 84-year-old father and then burying his body in the garden of their home.

According to police, Hiromi Kawabuchi turned herself in at a police station at around 5 a.m. Tuesday and said she had killed her father, Saburo Kawabuchi, and then buried him in the garden.

Police searched the residence and found Kawabuchi's body buried under cement.

The woman told police that she had killed her father in mid-August after he had found out she had been stealing his pension money.

Is it an amount that is really worth killing someone or not reporting their death

It's all relative. If you have nothing, and no hopes of getting anything, $100 can seem like a fortune. When you charge $100 for your work, and are flooded with work, $100 is nothing.

I'd say it's never actually worth it to kill someone for any amount of money. But the amount of a pension is obviously enough to those who do kill for it to make them do it.

I read about children killing their parents over pension money, my question to the JT public, exactly how much does a pensioner make in Japan? Is it an amount that is really worth killing someone or not reporting their death (in the cases of those supposedly aged 100+ who have been dead but not reported so the family can keep getting the pension).

Or is there a bigger story that is not being told, how the Japanese economy is really just "smoke and mirrors" and there are a lot more people out there who are on the brink of being in the poor house and if the public really knew how one works long hours and gets little pay that is eaten up by taxes demands for real reforms would rise and mess up the whole system.

Just curious. Is getting 150,000 yen a month (what I am guessing) worth killing someone over.

Who knows what kind of father he was. I am not saying killing him was ok, but only those 2 know what really went on that would lead to an ending like this one.

I have a feeling we will be seeing a lot more matricide within the next few years.

This was patricide, not matricide.

As the population continues to age and the middle class continues to get kicked in the face, I have a feeling we will be seeing a lot more matricide within the next few years. This is a demographic and economic problem as much as it is a social one.

Make no mistake. Whether we like it or not, we are going to see more cases like this in the coming years, thanks to the aging population and the disappearance of mechanisms for the people supporting themselves these days in Joan

It's "The love of money is the root of all evil". I bet she had her favorite machines at the local Pachinko Palace

It is a horrible crime that a daughter can do against her father. Really unthinkable indeed.

The father was literally killed like a dog. RIP.

And the daughter had been pocketing her father's pension money presumably for years. What a greedy and stingy daughter.

Father's life < Money ....What a swell daughter..

Why did she confess?

Guilt can be a powerful emotion.

She was pretty much forced to carry on receiving his pension after having killed him. Otherwise, the authorities would have wanted to know why he didn't want it any more.

Wow? selfish idiot, now you have nothing to steal.

I thought I would be reading about how she was tired of caring for her disabled old father. I bet she was planning to continue stealing his pension after she killed him. Where is the love?
