Police in Murakami city, Niigata Prefecture, have arrested a 57-year-old unemployed woman on suspicion of killing her 80-year-old mother at their home.

According to police, Teruko Maeda is accused of punching her mother Tamiko Azuma in the stomach and kicking her in the back at around noon on Sept 30, local media reported.

Police said that Maeda called her younger brother and said their mother had lost consciousness and was lying on the living room floor. The younger brother came over and called 119.

Azuma was taken to hospital where she died later that day. The hospital notified police after finding several bruises on the victim’s body.

Maeda and her husband lived in the house with her mother. Her husband was at work at the time of the alleged assault.

Police said Maeda, who was arrested on Tuesday, has admitted to the charge but has so far given no motive.

Same old story, every week in Japan. Couldn't we do some more to prevent elder abuse?

So the billions of people in Asia who do revere "their old" don't matter because of this one incident.

Because that's a logical conclusion, right?

Motive (as always) : I was stressed out from taking care of her.

Although what she did was not acceptable, it is not hard to assume she had grudge and resentment towards her parent. After all, psychological/emotional/physical abuse from people with power (caregiver) to weaker people (children) are so normalized in this culture. Children who survived abuse gets revenge when they grow up, that's what I see from this kind of news.
