How did she get broken ribs if he hit her on the head with a rock?

The story doesn't say she was hit in the head. It says she was hit repeatedly.

She was on a bridge - probably fell or forcefully pushed against the railings.

It's national news. In Japan.

I am pretty sure the police blotters from a small city, like Des Moines or Helena, Montana, have more lurid and shocking news than what you get from scraping the Japanese tabloids.

Of course we are all concerned about our loved ones, and this "happens all the time," but something like 30 million female Japanese people went about their business yesterday and if 300 of them were assaulted, which is 300 too many, the risk is vanishingly small.

It is not a perspective on the news. I think the perspective IS the news. The fact that the police have the resources to actively investigate and pursue this guy speaks volumes.

Poor girl. Probably some crazy - if they catch him he will claim to have been drunk or that seeing a girl walking by herself at night made him lose control.

I want to know what caused the head injuries. A bigger rock?

It did this morning.

Moderator: No, it did not. It said she sustained injuries to her head.

Umm, he may have hit her in several places including the cage, possibly hit her that hard as well.

with what appeared to be a small rock ...that could be anything from a piece of metal to the head of a hammer...after all, it was night.

He'll probably say he's drunk and can't rmbr, or that her couldn't help himself.

I hope she's doing ok because it could've been worst.

A rebuffed customer perhaps

A "small rock"?...this news seems to say the same small rock was used repeatedly to hit her...if it were a small rock then the only way it could've caused so much damage is that the guy threw it really fast...then he picked the same rock and threw it again...the whole mental image i have about it is kinda weird...
