When cases like this happen, I often wonder why there are no other dudes around who can put this freak in a headlock and take him to the nearest koban. Did anyone see this happen? If Japan is such a safety country, why do I read stories like this on a daily basis? [Focus on Japan and comparing other countries is not the way to improve Japan's rising crime rate.]

I once rode my bike out to Chigasaki / Fujisawa just because I was that bored and wanted to see how long it took to get there (from Zama).

The place is basically pitch black at night and if you’re taking the last train home, you’re on your own.

It doesn’t surprise me at all this happened, it’s just the first time it got reported.

machidamichael. Put some links up if this happens on a daily basis. Which we all know it doesn't. And it's not a genius idea to start making citizen arrests in Japan. Just let the Japanese police do there job. Or, it will be you that gets arrested for obstruction of police.

What do you expect from Japan, honestly? Do you know that Japan has 125 million people? Japan is a crime-low nation but of course it is not crime-free. A crime-free country does not exist!

I hope she feels ok soon.

It's only a matter of time before this psycho strikes again around the same area, hopefully next time someone will knock him down and ends up putting him in coma.

Well, I'm no Sherlock, but I guess it's probably because at 12:10 a.m., there are basically no one walking around at night. Most people, like me, are tucked in their futons sleeping.

There is a problem within Society that gives rise to this type of Crime.

What solutions are there to prevent such Crimes and what types of rehabilitation options are there for those who carried out such Crimes ?

Anyone care to provide real practical advise here ?
