Police in Mito, Ibaraki Prefecture, have arrested a 26-year-old woman and her 45-year-old common-law husband on suspicion of assault after they fired an air gun at their elementary school daughter.

Asuka Kaneda and her common-law husband, Yasuaki Watanabe, are accused of injuring the child at the end of May, Kyodo News reported. The girl suffered injuries to her face, stomach, hands and feet.

The case came to light after a teacher noticed the girl’s injuries and contacted police.

Kaneda and Watanabe were sent to prosecutors on Tuesday.

It's hard to imagine the kind of twisted minds that thought this 'discipline' was a solution to anything. And now we have another traumatised child going through life without trust or love; yet another casualty of screwed-up parenting, albeit on the more extreme side.

It would be interesting to know their employment situation. Unemployed, construction, police officer, teacher, etc…

My blood is boiling if I can see this kind of news that when parents are maltreating kids, I really really hate this kind of human monster I always wish to do the same what they have done to kids by my own bare hands.

Poor kid. I hope she can be with a family that will help her heal.

They shot her multiple times to boot. They're not fit to be parents. Find this girl a loving home.

Credit where credit is due. Good job to the teacher for pursuing this. Good job to the officials who followed through.

Luckily it wasn't what we have seen so many times before. Child abuse but child returned to parents.

Let's hope she finds caring guardians who will take care of her and show her the love she deserves.

I hope her parents lose custody.

Hard to believe these kinds of thugs exist. Children deserve caring and nurturing and not bullets.

This couple should not see the daylight for the rest of their lives.

BigP, Japanese news said both are unemployed. Their pictures are also in the news.

NERDS! Geeks! WTH do these 'parents' think they're doing? Do they think they're being funny? This is purely sadistic at the very least.

Poor kid. I hope she can be with a family that will help her heal.

If nothing else, she'll have psychological scars and that's a heavy onus she'll be carrying all her life.

Absolutely. Even foster care would be an improvement.
