Woman enters Gifu police station, threatens to kill officer

I like this nutcase a lot better than the other one the other day who attacked an 80-year old at the station. Hey a police station, now that is gutsy.

Jonobugs. I know how the poster meant KEYSTONE in this instance, and I agree with you. It is fun for me to note, though, that the policeman in this instance was a keystone, in that if he had not held firm, everything would have fallen apart. It is a weird juxtaposition of meanings, but it would be an appropriate and complimentary term if it were used that way here.

Goosefrabs. Hard to imagine what else it could be. Who knows? But to be fair to the targeted officer, sometimes young women can become totally fixated on people who are just trying to be nice. Maybe this has happened to everybody? If the officer ignored her for 3 years and she is still hunting him down...well... she needs to get on with life. I have had a harmless pseudo stalker for about a decade now. No sex or criminality involved, but someone who just keeps tabs on me. It is quite strange, but it is ok if I don't think about it. He pops up now and then to say hi, and then disappears. I would think it was an hallucination, but then I get the letters... so I know it is real.

She used firecrackers and the knife to get attention. Hey! It worked!

She first made the officer's acquaintance three years ago. How? Was she crazy back then? It says that this year she threw fire crackers and the knife thing, but what happened three years ago... This is super creepy. I'm imagining a woman scorned... maybe I watch too many dramas. XD

oh....a soka....it's a prefecture located in the Chūbu region of central Japan. Its capital is the city of Gifu...so des nay.....so so so so...

Thuis women must be a real physco-path. I mean to walk into a police station with a knife and threaten a police office, you must be crazy. She is in a real need for some real therapy at a shrink hospital.

So three years ago this nut was charged and let loose without so much as a second look? Gotta loath the mental health care system in Japan.

The law hasn't changed, they've just tightened up on the enforcement of the law. Carry a knife in Japan has been illegal for a long time, and the size limit here is very small (about 9 or 10cm I think, but don't quote me on that). There is the usual proviso that allows the blade to be carried for legitimate purposes, so that obaachans can continue to carry those scary-looking scythes. In this case however there's no legitimate reason to be carrying kitchen knife wrapped in a towel into a police station, so she's clearly guilty.

But yeah, I agree, this woman doesn't need a conviction, she needs help.

In the States, assault with a deadly weapon, on a police officer, will buy you a lot of jail time.

Borscht, if it's bigger than a certain size, it has to be sealed; you can't even brandish it in the air. Remember that 70+-year-old American tourist who was put in jail for nine days because he was carrying a near-harmless pocketknife?

What does the Swords and Firearms Control Law say? You can't carry a kitchen knife around or you can't threaten anyone with a kitchen knife? How big does a knife have to be before it's considered a 'sword?'

I agree with others that this woman needs some attention and the sooner the better - before she stabs a couple dozen strangers to death.

It sounds like the officer did a good job as nothing bad happened yet I wonder why people use derisive terms (keystone) to describe the officer when they have no information whatsoever except for the outcome? Sounds like some people are just a bit narrow.

Don't they have a mental hospital on this rock?

Thank God she walked into a police station and didn't decide to walk into a kindergarden. She is crying out very loud for help but I'm sure the courts will fine her, point their finger and say don't disturb the policeman again and send her on her (destructive) way.

Well, kudos for the officer for keeping a cool head and talking the woman out of it -- clearly that's what she needs is to talk, and that's what's lacking in Japan; an outlet to do it.

What's a harmless jest to liven up an officer's day ? She sounds like a fun-loving jokester to me.
