Woman fatally stabbed in car; ex-husband found hanged at home

A 28-year-old woman was fatally stabbed in her car in Nagasaki on Saturday, police said, adding that her ex-husband, 30, who they suspect stabbed her, apparently hanged himself at his home nearby.

According to police, they received a call from a local resident in Sankeidai at around 11:40 a.m. Saturday, reporting that an unconscious woman was in the driver's seat of a parked car and that she was bleeding. Fuji TV reported that the woman, identified as Chiaki Nonaka, was taken to hospital where she died about three hours later due to blood loss from stab wounds to her abdomen. A bloodied knife was found in the car.

The car was parked not far from the home of Nonaka's ex-husband, Shogo Temizu. Police went there and found that he had hanged himself. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. Temizu lived with his younger brother.

Police said that Nonaka had consulted them in November about her ex-husband stalking her, but declined to file a criminal complaint. Police kept in touch with her periodically and said Nonaka had reported nothing out of the ordinary by mid-January.

Sad story. Poor girl, 28 is too young.

Nonaka had consulted [police] in November about her ex-husband stalking her

The term "stalking" is over-used and does nothing to help understand the sheer devastation of a relationship breakdown.

Surely there is a better word to use...

Maybe, another guy with too much pride. RIP

Again, the ol "if I can't have you no one will" mental "snap" has ended in tragedy. Wish I had a dollar for every time this has happened here. The reason the male commits suicide is because after the mental snap where they leave the normal thinking logical world, he comes back to reality of what he has done and is in shock. It's a textbook mental weakness flaw many here possess. Yes, I know it happens everywhere but on a per/capita basis....now you know the rest of the story.

Or perhaps it is a coincidence? hmmm...

This story raises many questions.

No. Stalking is precisely the word to be used. This was her ex-husband. Their relationship ended when it was legally dissolved. Yet, he somehow managed to insinuate himself into her life again for some reason, resulting in her having to consult with the police in order to get him to leave her alone.

We don't know why Nanoka was near her ex-husband's house the night she was murdered, but the fact that this ended in a murder-suicide suggests very strongly that some mental instability was at work here, and not on the part of the victim.

"The sheer devastation of a relationship breakdown" is nothing new to humanity and overwhelmingly does not result in a murder-suicide. This woman's death may not have been stalked up until the moment she was murdered, but stalking certainly seems like it was at play here.

Thank you Educator60 for letting us know that this couple though divorced had a child together. And thank you LFRAgain, with Educator60's information we can extend your point about the sheer devastation of a relationship breakdown IMPOSED ON YOU AND YOUR OWN CHILD by the single custody system unique to Japan.

Regardless, it doesn't warrant a murder.

Thank you Iomae for clarifying that, and of course you are right, IT certainly does not WARRANT a murder. Actually, I did not mean to suggest that IT did. What I wanted to say was that this is a case where IT (the sheer devastation of a relationship breakdown IMPOSED ON YOU AND YOUR OWN CHILD) involves something of a far greater magnitude and complexity than 'only' the break-up of a marriage or romance. As the earlier comment by Johny Shaftman highlights, the intensity of feelings can be so overwhelming that a 'mental snap' is a real possibility in any of us (though especially the young). And thank you to LFRAgain for mentioning the strong possibility of mental instability playing a part here. However, LFRAgain is mistaken to say "...not on the part of the victim". Can any parent who deliberately acts to exclude the other parent from involvement with their children not invite suspicions of mental instability? Moreover, although LFRAgain says "The sheer devastation of a relationship breakdown is nothing new to humanity... ", I agree except that what is certainly only recent to humanity (in Japan) is the sheer scale of RELATIONSHIP BREAKDOWNS IMPOSED BY ONE PARENT ON THE OTHER PARENT AND THEIR CHILD due to the single custody system.
