A 55-year-old woman was found dead at the entrance to her residence in Konan, Shiga Prefecture, police said Monday.
According to police, Hiroko Matsubara was found at around 2 p.m. Sunday, lying on the ground at the entrance to her home by her 94-year-old mother-in-law who had come over to greet her for the new year, Fuji TV reported.
Police said Matsubara had been beaten on the right side of her head. She was confirmed dead at the scene.
When Matsubara was found, the door was not locked and there was no sign of the house being ransacked.
Matsubara has lived alone since her husband died of an illness.

Nasty business. I hope this is treated very seriously by authorities.

The door was not locked. It's been many times I've seen this always happen in Japan! Why can't their people always stay safe to avoid those strangers?!

What if he had been hiding in the home waiting for her because it was unlocked so he could just walk in and hide.
