A 71-year-old woman was found dead in her Yokohama apartment about an hour after one of her daughters jumped to her death from the roof of a nearby building on Wednesday morning.

According to police, the body of Motoko Sugase was found by her oldest daughter in the livingroom at her apartment in Konan Ward at around 12:10 a.m. TBS quoted police as saying that she had been strangled to death.

About one hour earlier, the victim's second oldest daughter, 45, who lived with her mother, apparently jumped to her death from the rooftop of a nearby condominium, police said.

I suppose the younger daughter got stressed from looking after her mother.

Last time I checked, 71 wasn't that old.

Well, that's settled the inheritance issue.

Wait, I thought it is a high honor to care for elderly?? OR is this just another misrepresentation of Japanese culture?

I've never heard a Japanese person use the term 'high honour' ever, so it would appear you've been watching movies or reading books by someone who didn't know what they are talking about.

But, that said, it is a Japanese thing for children to look after their elderly parents, maybe it was to this which you were referring. If so, this story changes nothing, unless you believe that every single Japanese person without fail must act exactly the same way for that action to be considered 'Japanese'. And if that is the case, well then nothing would be Japanese.
