The Tokyo District Court has sentenced a 45-year-old woman to 10 years in prison for conspiracy to commit murder after she hired three men in an unsuccessful attempt to kill her husband last year.
The court convicted Miyuki Takita, a part-time worker, of plotting with the three men, whom she met on a social networking site, to kill her husband, Kyodo News reported. In handing down the verdict, Presiding Judge Iichiro Sakata called the crime “selfish and short-sighted.”
Prosecutors said that Takita’s husband began to strictly monitor her money-spending habits after discovering she was heavily in debt. This led to Takita tweeting about her dissatisfaction and hiring the three men to orchestrate her husband’s murder.
The attempted murder occurred at around 2:30 a.m. on Aug 7 in the victim’s apartment in Adachi Ward. The suspects -- two aged 22 and one aged 19 -- entered the apartment and stabbed the man, who is in his 40s, in the chest with a knife while he slept. Takita is believed to have left the apartment door unlocked for the trio. The victim survived the attack with injuries that took a month to recover from.
The suspects, who have already been convicted of attempted murder, said they received no money either in advance or after the failed attempt.© Japan Today
