High-strung woman.

described the action of destroying the violins as one committed by someone with a strong hatred.

A hatred of violins? This is just a sickly act of revenge by an emotionally disturbed person. Two years in jail might seem like a fitting sentence, but she also needs some anger management counselling, which she will hopefully receive in prison.

So sad.

Presiding Judge Satoko Shotokuji said Qin had admitted to scribbling on the wall and described the action of destroying the violins as one committed by someone with a strong hatred.

Ya think!? Penetrating analysis Judge Judy. How many divorces don't involve strong hatred.

This has taken four years before coming to court?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

2 years jail seems a bit harsh, divorce by its nature usually is not generally amicable. The husband will have made replacement instruments by the time she is released. Where's the suspended sentence?

Hope the jail is not a free ride. Make her work and reimburse. Only fair.

No, it was the court decision that came four years later. Having experience with Japanese courts myself, I can tell you that the back and forth yaritori between lawyers and the court is very time comsuming, and before a verdict is ever reached, there will be several court hearings where both parties plead their case. Documents need to be prepared, documents written, discussed, countered etc.

Not to mention witnesses and cross examinations.

The lowest level incident to be a news.

Losing a violin collection is one thing but he is lucky to have escaped that marriage in one piece.

This article just says "violin maker", but he is actually a maker and collector. He had some really expensive imported violins. Now he is basically back at zero.

Not mentioned in the article is the fact that the woman was also in the music business; she imported and distributed low-cost entry-level stringed instruments made in China. They worked together, she looking after the low end of the market while he catered to the high end.

There is an old saying from the 1800's, "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned"

The woman sounds a bit high-strung.

Hope he was insured, and had a good pre-nup...

Let me guess, not familiar with Japan right?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

In self-defense, she said she did not break ALL the violins and bows. So, not just a straight case of domestic violince?
