The Sapporo District Court on Thursday sentenced a 57-year-old woman to seven years in prison for beating her mother to death at their home last December. Prosecutors had sought 10 years.
According to the court ruling, Yu Inoue punched her mother Kiyomi in the face and stomped on her body at their home in Kita Ward between 6:20 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. on Dec 23, Hokkaido Shimbun reported. That same night, Inoue turned herself in at a nearby koban (police box) and confessed to beating her mother.
The court heard that Inoue was clearing snow on the morning of Dec 23 and asked her mother to take care of her dog. The two got into a heated argument over the dog, which triggered the physical assault.
Inoue was quoted as saying, “I lost my temper at the way my mother talked to me.”

At first I was taken aback by the ridiculously short sentence of 7 years, until I saw that the prosecutor was only seeking 10 years. WTH?
