Woman held for strangling two daughters

Police on Sunday arrested a 33-year-old woman for allegedly strangling her two daughters to death at their home in Kyoto.

According to police, they received a phone call from the woman's husband at 4 p.m. on Saturday, saying that his wife had killed their two daughters, TBS reported. Police rushed to the apartment and found the bodies of the two sisters, Anji Furuta, 9, and Yuan, 6, lying in the livingroom.

Their mother, Yuko, has admitted to killing her daughters, police said, but has so far given no motive. Police said her husband was in Osaka at the time and that she called him there, telling him what she had done.

Again??? Clearly, you are more likely to be killed by a family member than a stranger in Japan. This is beyond sad! It is disgusting!

Statistically,

you are more likely to be killed by a family member than a stranger

in any country, unless it's warfare.

I agree, totally beyond my understanding but this is already out of control. Please make it a law to imprison and severely punish these type of criminals, mothers alike. There is no reason why not to impose the death penalty in these cases also.

Okay, this really is, literally, a daily thing now. So, are the usual suspects going to log in and suggest it might be some extended PPD or that the woman was being abused, etc.? RIP to the kids. As to the mother, who clearly can't give any motive, isn't the penalty in Japan for killing two or more people death? I don't agree with the death penalty, but she did the crime.

Sorry but this is to close to home, my children go to the same school. Been difficult trying to explain and to understand.

Something in the water perhaps ?

Yes, as Smith says and I and others probably have said before this is a daily event, literally, not jokingly exaggeratedly. If this happened in the UK it would be a cause celebre like Baby P was, but here it is as we say a daily event. There are maybe reasons why it's more likely here, but that just adds to the reasons why the whole country should be asking themselves hard questions when events like this happen, not just the few individuals concerned.

According to other news outlets, she gave the usual excuse, "I planned to kill myself afterwards"

Its amazing how they always manage to not succeed with killing themselves...coward!

And again another case of a parent killing their kid's...

I totally believe that there are more seniors than kids now because parent(s) are killing their own flesh left and right!

Somebody needs to strangle her. These stories always piss me off.

@smithjappan - your usual suspects remark... this IS a DISCUSSION Board.... if we did not voice our opinion then guess what this would be.....? So per your remark and reading between the lines I'll just say.... a sad, sad story indeed.

no motive what so ever? must be a Shōjō!! quick get the salt!

This is very strange. How could she strangle one kid, while the other one didn't scream or run away?

No idea why she did this, but that she called the husband instead of the cops suggests that maybe there was plenty of anger at the husband? And killing the kids was her way of getting back at him? It's been known to happen.

What a terrible way to die, poor girls probably ,as you do trusted their mother SO much ,and she goes around and strangles them.. I hope this fuit loop suffers for the rest of her natural life..

Please kill yourself first next time.

Very sad, RIP little girls. I love Japan but have personal experience with dealing with family members with mental/emotional problems . There are really good mental doctors in Japan but people feel embarrassed or ashamed to seek such kind of help. The mother needs help and a long prison sentence. I know that many like her are given short or suspended sentences which does not leave a strong reason for other depressed family members to hurt or kill their children.

So its not alleged as she admitted to murdering them. Or is this not classified as murder?

Terribly sad. This happens too much and I feel bad for a lot of these husbands that work miles away. Why does JP have this system of transferring employees all over the country for no reason?

What is this? Open season on Japanese kids? This has gotten out of hand.

This would seem to have satisfied the requirements for the death penalty; premeditation and a minimum body count of two. Could you please do a follow up to this story letting us know what penalty the prosecution asks for and her defence.

WTF is wrong with these people!

oyatoi, no, she won't get the death penalty. It looks like Japanese courts are sympathetic to parents commiting such crimes. They usually get off with reduced sentences. I haven't seen much that exceeds 10 years. Really sad, but true... :(

Put her in jail until the kids are no longer dead.
