These things usually happen to people who the attacker presupposes 'won't fight back'.

Another mentally ill patient. When will the jgov do something to resolve this??? It's all about the facade in Japan.
Coulda been
Fortunately (if that can be said) the woman did not sustain serious physical injuries. However, ongoing emotional trauma will probably stay with her. "Can't remember" seems to be a common trait with perpetrators and is not one which should be universally accepted- hopefully, he won't remember being confined either.

Attacking an old woman in her 80's? Talk about defenseless! Coward.
Kyo wa heiwa dayo ne
elderly lady why he attacked her ?
Hope she recovers ok.
Glad to read that bystanders apprehended the attacker.
He has no recollection of the incident ?
Why was he carrying a knife?
Mental illnesses are prevalent in Japan!

Japan is becoming a dangerous place now with random knife attacks at train/subway stations almost daily. Watch out.

Well this is becoming a worrying trend in Japan. It's probably time to install plainclothes officers on trains at at stations to do random sweeps.
Also, this excuse of having no recollection - do the perps actually think think it'll fly in court? We live in an age where cameras are everywhere. This excuse is ridiculous and laughable.

according to the stones doctrine fighting back is not an option, and they j-theys take advantage of this.

Many more copy cats to come, its funny how they all think its cool to copy but can not have the brains to thin for themselves to do something different. Shows no individuality here in Japan and all crime is bad including knifing on the trains, which is poppular now in Japan.

It breaks my heart when reading news like this coming from Japan.

Japan is a stressful society and that means people ‘snap’ and these days it seems to be on the up...!

Big, brave man with knife chooses alone, elderly woman to attack.

Many Japanese men need a mental check-up. Many are dressed gently outside but mentally unfit. There are some crimes committed by these people and the excuses they give by committing the crime are so childish that only an insane person could cause that harm.
