Just UNBELIEVABLE.

""A 25-year-old woman""

Thank you JT for NOT writing A 25-year-old mother.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

When we were kids, my oldest brother accidentally pulled down a cooking pot of soup and it fell on his chest. I will NEVER forget the look of his skin, the smell and the excruciating pain he was in. That was an accident which stemmed from his childhood curiosity. This lady on the other hand (no pun intended) deliberately did this as a means to .....get this ; "quiet her daughter by pouring hot water on her hand for 1 min." Please lose her in the jail system, Japan! Please!

So what? No action taken against the mother?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Femaly hypergamy is built into our species, it is not particular to Japan. You find it in every society.

True but there are degrees to it that are allowed to exist by men and social support systems. Japan is especially bad in this regard and it's one of the country's biggest weaknesses. Far too many women kidnapping their children.

Horrendous!

Hopefully the little one gan get the love and attention she deserves.

This is not a problem restricted to Japan and I'm tired of reading posts from those who insist that it is.

Given the kid appearance.. wow!!

We did not see the kid, did you?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The child needed attention that's why didn'tstop crying. And the mother is busy on smartphone.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Wanna bet that she'll get a suspended prison sentence and will not lose her parenting rights over the poor baby?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Given the kid appearance.. wow!! Truly sad. I hope she heals both mentally and physically

I blame Japanese female hypergamy for too easily leaving their husbands.

So, pouring boiling water on a child’s hand is going to make it stop crying? What a horrid HORRID woman! An eye for an eye I reckon. Pour boiling water on her hand and see how loudly she screams!

5 ( +5 / -0 )

We think rational ‘human beings’, including both parents and childless individuals, will feel and agree: “There is absolutely NO justification for ANY kind of ‘child abuse”. (A simple, informal poll by “ - here will indicate if ‘one’ thinks otherwise.)

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Perhaps you didn’t read all the information @blvtzpk 1:29pm:

- 11:25am - “Actually, after a severe burn does not hurt.”

Then, some justifications & backpedaling yet accusatory of others:

- “The blame goes to those that saw the abuse before this tragic event and kept handing the child back to the mother.” -

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

TokyoJoe

Japanese women are all to frequently doing unthinkable things to vulnerable children. Utterly sickening.

Once is "too frequent" of course, but how do you know this is unique to Japan? Because you read it in the news? In that case, what do you expect to the see in the new --- reports about the millions and millions of children who had a happy, normal day here?

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

Given the girl's physical appearance, the police suspect the mother may have been involved in child abuse on a regular basis.

Imagine being born to this mother from hell and then totally depend on her, like all babies. Horrible.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Cases like this is where "eye for an eye" punishment should exist. See how she likes having boiling water poured on her. See who cries then.

Who the hell pours boiling water on anyone, let alone a 1 year old?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Again @K_Y 12:35pm, more erroneous conjecture.

- “The blame goes to those that saw the abuse before this tragic event and kept handing the child back to the mother.” -

There is no indication in the above article that police and/or social welfare had ANY contact with the child and mother prior to the recent abuse. From the article:

- “Given the girl's physical appearance, the police suspect the mother may have been involved in child abuse on a regular basis.” -

The were commenting on signs of suspected, prior abuses from the girl’s appearance. Given the limited details, the “blame” remains with the parent.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

The blame goes to those that saw the abuse before this tragic event and kept handing the child back to the mother.

In many ways, we are grateful to not have children but seeing this happen is disheartening.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

There are almost no words for this kind of cruelty. This woman is several depraved and needs mental help right away. She also needs some serious jail time. Poor poor kid. I wouldn't do this to my worst enemy and to do it to your own child is just unconscionable. Whomever called the cops saved the child's life.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

How did the police find out about this?

If this baby had signs of abuse, why only now is this coming to light?

Japan wants to talk about its lack of children, and then you read this.

So a baby won't stop crying so you dump scalding water on her hand and she cries some more.

Real swift, man. Not. Take the baby away from this wench.

Here is a lesson on burns:

Third degree are often numb, but fourth degree have no pain due to nerve damage.

Third-degree burns (full thickness burns) go through the dermis and affect deeper tissues. They result in white or blackened, charred skin that may be numb.

Fourth-degree burns go even deeper than third-degree burns and can affect your muscles and bones. Nerve endings are also damaged or destroyed, so there’s no feeling in the burned area.

It mentions nowhere that she is a single mother, why so many posters assuming that?

Almost every time the posters will try to find a way to bash Japan, even if it means inventing things.

-8 ( +4 / -12 )

Both the psychological and physical scarring are imbedded for a lifetime, particularly when it comes from a parent and/or principle caregiver.

- “Given the girl's physical appearance, the police suspect the mother may have been involved in child abuse on a regular basis.” -

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Agreed @P.Smith 9:08am to you relevant points:

- “hope the police & child welfare workers don’t drop the ball on this case. Reading about a burned infant is bad enough; don’t want to be reading about a deceased infant because the police & child welfare workers are [continually] incompetent.” -

Additionally, when it’s a critical ‘domestic’ issue, some will always try ‘throwing a little shade’ toward “the west” @10:01am when they’re clearly not relevant to what’s happening here.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Tragic.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

It mentions nowhere that she is a single mother, why so many posters assuming that? She is selfish, heartless and easy to snap and be violent.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

I'm sure this has always been a problem, but there's just more reporting nowadays.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

I’ve never heard of anyone in the US doing something as heinous as this, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

I have difficulty reading this.

Is she a abandoned single mother needing help in many ways?

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Nobody is mentioning effects of covid19 lockdowns. It is very serious, especially for children, so soon this will just be another story.

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

This kind of child abuse from young single mothers is way too common in this country. There is not enough being done to tackle this rising issue. I blame the system.

I blame Japanese female hypergamy for too easily leaving their husbands. Stop being passive-aggressive, pouty princesses in your relationships. If you have a problem, say it, don't just hold it inside until you go insane, disappear with the kids while the guy is away at work, and then abuse your kids in some fleabag apartment in bumtruck Gunma prefecture.

and child abuse does not happen in other countries? Please read

Did you mean America?

-11 ( +5 / -16 )

Another day another one. Truly sickening.

Anger management, or lack thereof, is a huge issue in Japan. People can snap so easily without thinking of the consequences.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

@Darius

This kind of child abuse is rare in Japan. That’s why it was newsworthy.

-6 ( +9 / -15 )

What a scumbag.

Japan has lots of pre-natal stuff so maybe it should be expanded to include when and how to discipline children (e.g., not when they are simply crying).

There will still be people who use cruel punishments, some people are indeed "mental", but it would be much easier to intervene if established guidelines had been laid down first.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Oh stop it. It's not cultural. This is rare and abnormal.

-12 ( +8 / -20 )

Why had to read this while making a cut of tea.

raising children is very difficult.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Some people should never be allowed to have children!

So pouring boiling hot water on a child would do what exactly? What would the outcome be? Create peace and calm? The person to blame is the mother. Decisions are made everyday by adults. Good ones and bad ones. As adults, we are all responsible for our decisions. This child needs to be taken away from her and given to a nice family that does not act in kind.

"Kana Watanabe, a resident of Takasaki, Gunma Prefecture, admitted to the charge, saying she lost control because her daughter would not stop crying. The woman told the police that she poured boiling water over the girl's hand for a period of about one minute."
