Woman robbed at knifepoint in car parking lot

A woman in her 50s was robbed by a man who threatened her with a knife in a car parking lot in Tokyo on Sunday night.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 10:30 p.m. in Nishi-Ikebukuro, Toshima Ward. Fuji TV quoted police as saying the woman had just arrived home and parked her car. As she got out of the car, a man whom she says she didn’t know suddenly approached her and threatened her with a knife, demanding her money and valuables.

The man forced the woman onto the ground and tied her hands and feet with cohesive bands. He stole her handbag which contained about 50,000 yen and ran away.

Police said the woman called out for help and a passerby heard her and called 110. Police said she did not suffer any injuries.

Thank goodness the woman is al right. Hopefully they will catch that suspect and lock him up with no possibility for parole for the rest of his life.

"I’ve said for decades, Japan is a safe country if you are a middle aged man. However, if you are a woman, child or elderly, you face the same dangers as any other country. Glad this woman was unhurt."

Well if I was a woman and I had choice to walk home alone at night in another country or Japan, I would pick Japan as my chances are much higher to make it home safely. As a man, it is much safer yet to get gas after 9pm at the pump than in most countries where you have to watch your back constantly as soon as one pulls up to the pump. However there are countries like most that have much safer areas but at a steep cost.

Lucky that other person came by. If he just wanted her purse, he would have grabbed it and escaped. Tying her up suggests he had other plans for her. Hope they catch this freak.

Nishi-Ikebukuro is a rachet area full of Yaks, druggies and hoes. BUT they should be able to catch him bcus the cams in that area have loop and real time feeds.

Many older people use cash, so be careful flashing the contents of your wallet at the supermarket checkout.

Many crimes stay out of the news too...

only in Japan though right?

Do the hustle

but it is in no way the crime free haven they plug it as.

Nobody said it is a "crime free". That is a strawman. What people are correctly saying is that Japan is safer than most other places.

@Reckless

Money's tight during the pandemic. Watch your back!

I agree, lately there has been cases of disgruntled bums knocking over bikes, and damaging them some real bad at supermarkets, and other bike parking places.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone say that.

You must be one of the three monkeys, you know....the ones that "hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil" about Japan.

Well yes, lies are evil too.

Japan is not safe for women.

Nowhere is 100 percent safe for anyone at all. But Japan is safER for women than well over 90 percent of the countries in the world. This woman was not even nicked with the knife. Japan is so safe the press has to report crimes that came with "threats" because there are so few injuries to report on even when crimes happen! My country can fill the papers with stories of real blood spilled every single day!

I taught my wife self defense. Eyes and balls first then the knee caps.

Against a guy with a knife? I hope you are a really good teacher.

I’ve said for decades, Japan is a safe country if you are a middle aged man. However, if you are a woman, child or elderly, you face the same dangers as any other country.

And that is simply not true, no matter how often you repeat that. Japan is massively safer than most other countries, including for women, children, and the elderly.

@Strangerland - You keep saying something that is wrong? Why?

Why? Because I get sick of hearing “Japan is a safe country.” Yes, the crime rates may be lower than other countries, but it is in no way the crime free haven they plug it as.

Criminals only prey on the weak and vulnerable in this country.

I worry for my wife everyday here in Tokyo. Japan is not safe for women.
