Woman slashes husband for not washing his hands after using toilet

Police in Tokyo's Ota Ward said Monday they have arrested a 29-year-old woman on suspicion of attempted murder after she slashed her husband because he didn't wash his hands after using the toilet.

According to police, the woman, identified as Emi Mamiya, got into an argument with her 34-year-old husband in the second-floor apartment at around 1 p.m. Sunday, Sankei reported. The woman told police later that she got mad at her husband because he was going to touch their 3-year-old son without having washed his hands after using the toilet. She also complained that he left the toilet smelly and that her child could not use it in that condition.

Police said she threatened her husband with an 18-cm-long knife and when he dared her to kill him, she slashed his left cheek.

A passerby who heard the argument called police.

Mamiya told police she and her husband had often quarreled about his toilet manners and that she was fed up with him.

Crazy about Hygene!

Take the child away from her immediately and lock her up. She's obviously crazy if she'll slash a person over something so, while disgusting, trivial by comparison. Being "fed up" is no reason to commit violence against a person, domestic or otherwise, and she needs to learn that the hard way, apparently. I hope he presses charges.

A whole new meaning to having a slash.

Fun couple.

Fun couple.

yes, so we may expect usual NPA yearly report that....number of crimes were down in 2015 (!)

2 ( +4 / -2 )

She also complained that he left the toilet smelly and that her child could not use it in that condition.

Ok princess. Someone forgot to teach this chick how the world works.

6 ( +11 / -5 )

Maybe he was diagnosing the toilet.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

ok, she went waaaay overboard, but what a disgusting man for not washing his hands after doing his duty.

7 ( +15 / -7 )

Why would you want to antagonize an angry woman holding a knife?.

24 ( +25 / -1 )

He seriously told the police what really happened? I'd have said I cut myself shaving.

You don't grass on your own family, whatever they've done.

-31 ( +7 / -38 )

Not washing hands after toilet use is a serious problem. And wanting to touch their child? Doesn't he know that is how the Noro virus is spread?

3 ( +13 / -10 )

There must be something deeper than this. So, tell me again, why do gays want to get married?

-9 ( +3 / -12 )

He seriously told the police what really happened? I'd have said I cut myself shaving.

You don't grass on your own family, whatever they've done.

Depends on his end goal - he may want to leave her and take the kid. If he doesn't say she tried to kill him, she probably gets the kid. But if he intends to stay with her, I agree with you.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Lucabrasi you're absolutely right

-22 ( +2 / -24 )

All she had to do was say loudly "No soap, no sex" - no problem

11 ( +14 / -3 )

People are known to take up the blade in quarrels over land, religion, toilet seat not down, etc.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

A very clear example of 'learning by pain' I'd say. Never touch a woman's toddler with your e-coli hands...

4 ( +7 / -3 )

I guess this woman never heard of the concept of DIVORCE...but I guess she will now..from her husband

4 ( +6 / -2 )

I hope he wiped his butt.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Turn the other cheek brother Gilbert. Hand soap, deodoriser and a handtowel will also send a message.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

You don't grass on your own family, whatever they've done.

Even attempted murder?

13 ( +14 / -1 )

Of course she leaves the toilet smelling of roses.

13 ( +13 / -0 )

This story is a good example of painting a picture by omitting facts.

Obviously this was not a blissfully happy relationship that suddenly went sour when hubby failed to wash his hands after using the toilet ONCE.

There's going to be MUCH more to it.

Is this the MILLIONTH time it's happened?

Was he drunk?

Was she?

Is she in the middle of psych "treatment?"

Is he "seeing someone else" and this was the last straw?

6 ( +12 / -6 )

Disguising some time I saw restaurant/bakery staff in their uniform in train station toilet going out with out washing their hands too.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

'Mamiya told police she and her husband had often quarreled about his toilet manners and that she was fed up with him.'

Well then why is anyone surprised?

It seems perfectly normal to slash people for not following the 'rules'; in a culture who runs on 'rules must be obeyed' system of values...

3 ( +3 / -0 )

lucabrasi: You do if they attempt murder and you wish to stay alive.

sillygirl: "Doesn't he know that is how the Noro virus is spread?"

It's only spread from a carrier, so unless he had it I doubt that was a concern. A much more realistic danger would have been giving the kid pink-eye or just germs in general. In any case, it does not excuse the woman's actions, and hopefully she knows that. Their relationship is no doubt ruined over this, but I'd say if it's to the point where one of the spouse's is trying to knife the other over a pet-peeve it's beyond saving anyhow.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

Mamiya told police she and her husband had often quarreled about his toilet manners and that she was fed up with him.

It stinks! Whatever the case, the relationship between the couple constantly quarrelling about their toilet is somewhat fishy. Let alone slashing her husband.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

You don't tske up a knofe and slash a family member eith it over a sotuation like this... this is unacceptable, so if later on the child also gorgets to do as tge morher wants, what will hsppen? she fets fed ipnand tskes a blade to her child? seems like she needs a psych eval real quick.

This is probably one of the absolute funniest and best stories Japan Today has ever carried. As somebody who lives with a Japanese woman that has often gone nuts if I forgot to wash my hands after touching money of any kind, I completely see the dark humor in this situation. Lesson be learned folks: DO NOT MESS WITH A JAPANESE WOMAN WHEN IT COMES TO HYGIENE!

9 ( +12 / -3 )

Good grief...

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Derek: Maybe you should move out? The next 'absolute funniest and best' story might be about you!

8 ( +9 / -1 )

she didnt need to SLASH him, she could of just DUMPed him instead

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Wives nag and husbands don't listen, that is the way of the World folks.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

All she had to do was say loudly "No soap, no sex" - no problem

To which the husband's retort is like to be, "No sex, go soap."

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Two toilets would have solved this problem! I wonder what kind of mess he left the shower room in?

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

It seems that toilet manners are so trivial to guys that they are unable to understand how a woman gets fed up with "simple details" that could make a great difference.

For example, If the husband shaves at the bathroom sink leaving all traces of hair and soap on the border of the sink, it seems trivial, but over the years sediment starts to build up it's harder to clean and it is perfectly avoidable if the husband simply washes the sink after shaving, the same when they leave toothpaste residuals. As for the use of the toilet, not all men have perfect aim, so the stains are all over the place, and #2 it's not all about the odour thing, mostly, is clogging, not flushing correctly, stained toilet seat and of course not washing the hands.

A woman can be patient with all that stuff, but when you already have quarrels about toilet manners, women's patience wears thin, I agree she was very extreme to hold a knife against her husband, but he also dared her to do so, he is the fool here, and although he doesn't deserve getting slashed, he deserves to be sued for divorce and child support

-9 ( +2 / -11 )

I once directed harsh words towards my whippet when he'd peed in the genkan but later apologized. When you agree to live with a creature, you agree to put up with their habits, within reason.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Cleanliness is next to godliness.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Hope her young son grows up remembering to wash his hands, otherwise, he might not be so lucky....

1 ( +1 / -0 )

It is believed that excessive skin washing is a leading cause of atopic dermatitis, otherwise known as atopy, in Japan. This story is a great anecdote attesting to how it got to be that way. Japanese bathe too often and too hot and kill good skin bacteria while leaving the bad to flourish.

Anyway, the washlet has made it so use of the toilet is ridiculously clean even without washing hands. Norms will win over facts though.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

With norovirus commonly tainting obentos here & there, I can't really say I blame her for being so knit-picky about crap like that.

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

here is a problem and it comes many times, the people do not know how to express their anger, just recently in the news a woman wanted to kill her husband because he did not bring chocolates on the white day,

4 ( +4 / -0 )

JoiceRojo: "It seems that toilet manners are so trivial to guys that they are unable to understand how a woman gets fed up with "simple details" that could make a great difference."

So, attempted murder is okay? "He also dared her to do so" in your words? So, if her leg shavings or other hair is left ratty to collect in and clog the pipes she was asking to be assaulted by the husband? How about some blood left on the underside of a toilet or something? What if THEY leave toothpaste caked to the sink?

The point is that there are all sorts of things we do that a spouse or others might not find endearing in terms of personal habits or being unhygienic, and especially if its a habit it can be frustrating, but you DO NOT TRY TO KILL SOMEONE FOR IT! And no, sorry, but he didn't 'dare her to do it', the woman is crazy. I honestly hope she doesn't mind a dirty toilet in a jail cell.

4 ( +9 / -5 )

DO NOT MESS WITH A JAPANESE WOMAN WHEN IT COMES TO HYGIENE! oh man dont mention that, theres hygiene and then there obsessive hygiene, I think im stuck somewhere in between.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

What's a man to do when so many major train station toilets have no soap? (Bad) Habits can easily extend from work to home and back, not to mention in between them both.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Woo! Another timebomb going off! It seems that, Japanese people are educated on everything except how to control their emotions. However, it seems her husband needs to be educated in correct toilet hygiene.

No. They're married, so I assume that's no longer a bargaining chip.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

I'm not married...,and this isn't helping..

3 ( +4 / -1 )

This isn't a reason to not get married, it's a reason to not get married to a psycho freak.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Washing your hands after you use toilet is a very basic sanitary code. Sharing a same toilet with other persons requires a rule for the persons to follow. It is not a matter of just his or her own hands being dirty. If the door handles become full of bacteria, then, the infectious disease can be spread into every part of the living space. Even Gandhi talked about the importance of a sanitary issue of toilet. He said that the job of the people who clean toilet is even more important than a lawyer's job. In the world where we don't know what next-- bacteria, viruses, fungi or parasites--may take over our cities and towns, and we all know antibiotic medications are gradually becoming ineffective, we should be "overly careful" about the cleanness of our hands. In this incident, she was also worrying about her child's health, nit just herself.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

@smith

you said:

So, attempted murder is okay? "He also dared her to do so" in your words?

I never said that is okay attempted murder, you are taking me out of context, I clearly said: "I agree she was very extreme to hold a knife against her husband, but he also dared her to do so"

I just said that she was at wit's end and he was a fool to antagonize her that way, and also that the men are less sympathetic to what a great deal is for a woman to have toilet manners, this is a very extreme case, but I don't think that quarrels on married couples about washing their hands, put the seat down and other toilet manners don't happen all over the world, but in the case of the Japanese it gets more noticeable due to the stress that the husband and wife experience, the former from work and the latter by being a housewife in the Japanese society

Woman slashes husband for not washing his hands after using toilet

The guy had to be drunk or grew up in a pigsty...

0 ( +2 / -2 )

I bet next time he will have clean hands!

0 ( +1 / -1 )

GONE GIRL.

Perhaps she watched Frozen and feels that men are the enemy. It's quite obvious this woman wants her own castle.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

I'm watching this on the news right now. This woman was a crazy b****.

The guy came out of the toilet, and went to touch their kid, and she freaked out because he had not washed his hands. So he washed his hand. Then she freaked out because the bathroom smelled bad, and pulled a knife on the husband. He walked up to her, and challenged her to do it, so she cut him. Then the police came and arrested her.

It turns out that a year ago, the husband did something else to make her angry, and on the phone she told him she was on her way to kill him.

Lock her up, keep her away from the kids.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Ah, so it really isn't about the toilet after all. Thanks for the update Strangerland.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

It sounds like they need to wash their hands of each other.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

No. They're married, so I assume that's (sex) no longer a bargaining chip.

Have you ever been married? But anyway, she should have just rapped his knuckles with a ruler....

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Another marriage flushed down the toilet.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

What kind of disgusting man doesn't wash his hands after going to the toilet? She should have chopped his head off and done Tokyo a favor.

But given that he was too stupid and vile to know basic hygiene, if he had any consideration or love for his wife, then on the honeymoon when she first noticed and probably nicely put it to him that he should wash his hands, why didn't he?

Geez of all the things that are conflicts in marriage, why couldn't this pig just take 30 seconds even to wash his hands and put a smile on his wife's face.

She is crazy. But she probably got like that after putting up with a completely obnoxious, unreasonable pig.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

if he had any consideration or love for his wife, then on the honeymoon when she first noticed and probably nicely put it to him that he should wash his hands, why didn't he?

He did. Read my post from this morning.

What kind of disgusting man doesn't wash his hands after going to the toilet?

About 50% of the ossans I see in public toilets don't wash their hands...

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Wow, lol... What happened there's no justifying or denying it or naysaying it. Poor kid had to see that? Omg the stress levels are turned up over here in little Japan...first of all the woman is right, don't antagonize her with an irreverent attitude, she has to put up with enough of the crap life has dealt her, does she need to justify her concerns to another adult who is supposed to be he partner in this crazy mess called life? We all get angry.. LoL

1 ( +2 / -1 )

This was just a trigger, the reason she slashed him wasn't just because he didn't wash his hands or the bathroom smelling bad.

This couple had been arguing day to day over different things so whatever he did or he didn't, she probably wasn't happy with him anyways.

She is/was just a very angry wife, and then the husband challenged her by saying "do it if you can" so she did. I say "docchi mo docchi" (both are to blame).

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Agree she is a abusive DV abusive housewife they did a feature on them, mostly older we IFE's whose husbands ar j ESS henpecked

Looks like husbands are limited to a budget and I DX it goes awry.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

He probably thought it was alright not to wash his hands as he was wearing a paper face mask.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Maybe this is what led up to the "last straw."

Her Bathroom Procedure:

Take off clothing and place it in sectioned laundry hamper according to lights and darks. Walk to bathroom wearing long dressing gown. If you see husband along the way, cover up any exposed areas. Look at your womanly physique in the mirror - make mental note to do more sit-ups. Get in the shower. Use face cloth, arm cloth, leg cloth, long loofah, wide loofah, and pumice stone. Wash your hair once with cucumber and sage shampoo with 43 added vitamins. Wash your hair again to make sure it's clean. Condition your hair with grapefruit mint conditioner enhanced with natural avocado oil. Leave on hair for 15 minutes. Wash your face with crushed apricot facial scrub for 10 minutes until red. Wash entire rest of body with ginger nut and jaffa cake body wash. Rinse conditioner off hair. Shave armpits and legs. Turn off shower. Squeegee off all wet surfaces in shower. Spray mold spots with Kabikilla. Get out of shower. Dry with towel the size of a small country. Wrap hair in super absorbent towel. Check entire body for zits, tweeze hairs. Return to bedroom wearing long dressing gown and towel on head. If you see husband along the way, cover up any exposed areas.

His Bathroom Procedure:

Take off clothes while sitting on the edge of the bed and leave them in a pile. Walk naked to the bathroom. If you see wife along the way, shake wiener at her making the 'woo-woo' sound. Look at your manly physique in the mirror. Admire the size of your wiener and scratch your behind. Get in the shower. Wash your face Wash your armpits. Blow your nose in your hands and let the water rinse them off. Make fart noises (real or artificial) and laugh at how loud they sound in the shower. Spend majority of time washing privates and surrounding area. Wash your rear, leaving curly hairs stuck on the soap. Shampoo your hair. Make a Shampoo Mohawk. Pee. Rinse off and get out of shower. Partially dry off. Fail to notice water on floor because curtain was hanging out of tub the whole time. Admire wiener size in mirror again. Leave shower curtain open, wet mat on floor, light and fan on. Return to bedroom with towel around your waist. If you pass wife, pull off towel, shake wiener at her and make the 'woo-woo' sound again. Throw wet towel on bed.

washing hands or cleanness of the body or the place is a habit usually comes from the parents

FFS, some of these comments seem to justify the woman taking a knife to her husband. Have you ever had someone pull a knife on you? Jeez, there is NO excuse for trying to knife the guy, even if his hands were covered in sh^&t.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I challenge the female readership to tell me that they haven't been in a public toilet in Japan and seen woman after woman exiting the stalls after a number two, only to stand in front of the mirror to fix their hair and make up - without ever washing their hands. There is a good reason why colds spread so quickly in Japan. This knife weilding gal should be praised for her understanding of germ theory.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

EmmanuelKant,

There is a good reason why colds spread so quickly in Japan.

Colds spread more quickly in Japan?

Because of not washing your hands after doing a number two in a public lavatory?

And that makes it OK to slash someone with a knife?

I must confess I find it hard to follow your logic.

0 ( +0 / -1 )

There is a good reason why colds spread so quickly in Japan.

Lots of people everywhere don't wash their hands. A doctor tested makeup samples from several department stores in the US and found staph, E.coli, herpes and other things in them.

The knife I can't get behind, but I trust you're being sarcastic.
