Woman, son arrested over her husband’s death

Police in Nagoya have arrested a 48-year-old woman and her 26-year-old son on suspicion of killing the woman’s 54-year-old husband.

According to police, Kei Kanbe and her son Shiyu killed Kei’s husband Masaki by putting a plastic bag over his head, at around 9:50 p.m. on Friday, Sankei Shimbun reported. The woman then called 119 and said her husband wasn’t breathing.

Kanbe was found unconscious in the first floor living room of the house in Nakagawa Ward. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead due to suffocation. The hospital then notified police about a suspicious death.

Police said Kei has admitted to the charge, while her son has admitted partial guilt, claiming there was no intent to kill. Police said Kei told them that Masaki was threatening her with a knife after an argument and that Shiyu came downstairs. She said they tried to restrain him by putting the plastic bag over his head.

Police said Kei sustained knife wounds to both arms during the incident.

makes me think how can people do such hideous crimes and think they can carry on with life as though nothing has happened, horrible

Fair enough. The story has been amended to reflect your input.

Sounds fishy to me. The guy is attacking and you put a PLASTIC bag over his head? He couldn't get out of that and he supposedly had a knife while the wife had cut marks and the son apparently had none? Hmm

Did you read any of the story? The guy was threatening his wife with a knife, and she has knife wounds to prove it. And the wife called 119. Not like she chopped up the body and continued on with her life.

The idiot husband was probably drunk as a skunk and passed out. Then the mother and son decided to restrain him further...I applaud them. I imagine those commenting about the wife's cold-blooded behavior condone the husband's domestic violence...femicide...yeah, why not! Give your head a shake!

@P.Smith, it’s presumption of innocence, not innocents. My nitpick of the day.

Clearly this case needs more investigating, I mean how on earth are they going to just put a bag on someones head while they are supposedly wielding a knife around, seems like that would be rather difficult to pull off even with 2 of them.

In any case what a MESS they are all or were ""living""

Err what?? I do not know who is guilty here, but putting a plastic bag over someones head is a pretty weird way to "restrain" anyone. It is time consuming and complicated, especially if the recipient resists. Sounds more like something you do to someone who is already restrained.

We don't have the details, but it's not too hard to imagine that if the husband was attacking/fighting with the woman, the son could have placed a bag over his head from behind.

It's hard to envision someone with a knife sharp enough to slash his wife's arms not being able to slice up the plastic bag placed around his head. All it would take would be one little cut and he would be able to breathe again.

Just about any household plastic bag flexible enough for an airtight seal could be ripped open by hand, let alone by a knife.

Unless his hands were restrained, which would prevent tearing the bag by either means.

Err, really? I find that extremely hard to imagine. Please find a friend and try "placing" a plastic bag over him while he is moving and resisting. Good luck! You are not talking about a shop mannequin here.

@albaleo

Interesting. I can actually visualize this. You might be on to something.

Interestingly, none of the Japanese articles I read phrase it as "putting a plastic bag over his head".

They said the mother and son held a plastic bag "nado" against his face, with the "nado" meaning they could have used other objects as well.
