No idea meloveulongtime, but there seem to be a lot of them around. I'm actually not very worried about getting robbed for my wallet in this country, I more worry about some person who stabs, injures, kills complete strangers because they want to see what it was like, or due to the stress in their life.

This is the truth!

Scary stuff! Gladly there haven't too many of these kinds of attacks recently. Where I come from it is pretty easy to pick the people that will give you trouble, but in Japan it could be anybody. Hope the plods catch this loon quickly.

As known by most intelligent women in Tokyo, men are usually safe, women must be considerably more cautious.

Stabbed in the back - not as if there is anything you can do to prevent that. Wonder if it will turn out that she knew her attacker...?

I hope they do not release any details about the victim's identity in the case if there were a random attack.

As seaforte03 intimates, many of these random attacks are done by frustrated women. In this case it appears to have been a man. But would you call it 'cowardice', meluvulongtime, if it had been a woman? If not, then what?

a woman...sure still a coward...gender does not matter

Here we go again...IBARAKI back on the dirt news!! I've been living in this inaka for like 6 years now? Gotta watch my back next time I take a walk around the neighborhood... geezus! Prompt recovery to this lady.

And cue the copycats in 3, 2, 1....

I think I should start a 'knife proof vest' business. At the rate things are going here in Japan, I am sure I wouldn't only be making profit from sales but also at the same time, I would be helping to save some lives. What do you think?

I guess the phrase "watch your back" really is good advice.

As far as the knife proof vest business goes, just make sure it covers front AND back! What a ugly shameful act.

@Proffesor...that can actually be a good idea. These stabbings are just too random!

That's not how I understood it at all! To me it meant that women are at greater risk of falling victim to some kind of attack. (Clue: seaforte03 wrote, "women must be considerably more cautious".)

Geezus...again? Getting stabbed in the back without any obvious reason is just...horrible.

Wow... I lived in that little city for 2 and a half years before moving last month. I wonder where it was.

So now when your walking in the streets of Ibaraki you better watch your back. Random stabbings is some scary stuff.

Ibaraki seems to be a scary place. (Crosses it off list of places to visit).

Stonecold soba, you're right about seaforte03's meaning. My bad. Apologies.

But the fact remains that these 'random' attacks are often by women. I just wonder if 'cowardly' is really the word to describe such acts. Ignorant, selfish, emotional, immature, uneducated, vicious, yes...

Ibaraki is a wonderful area. Please don't cross it off your list just because of one terrible person. These random acts of violence occur in other places, too.
