Woman suffering from dementia questioned over death of husband

A woman in her 80s who suffers from dementia is suspected of having beaten her husband, also in his 80s, to death at their home in Tokyo's Suginami Ward, police said Tuesday.

According to police, the woman called 119 at around 8 p.m. Monday saying that a man was bleeding from the head. Fuji TV reported that police rushed to the home in Koenji-Minami and found the man lying face-up on a futon in a room on the first floor of the two-story residence. He was confirmed dead at the scene.

Police said they questioned the wife but said she appeared to be suffering from dementia and they have not been able to get any detailed information from her.

There were no signs of anyone else having been in the house and nothing was disarranged.

Police said an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

If she has confirmed dementia she is non compos mentis and nothing she says can be taken as fact.

That would be a difficult interview....

If it turns out she did it, the menace must be dealt with. A demented killer is more dangerous than your run-of-the-mill variety. No remorse, no rationale, a clean, murderous slate. Of course, tough to get a conviction without a confession 'round these parts, and non compos mentis rules that out. Still, if she did do it, a quick dismissal or suspended sentence sounds like the order of the day.

They can not interview this person, The person has a brain disorder. Not court in the world would take her statement as eveidence. I up these coppers in Osaka for standing of the Ambos while they questioned this bloke just after having a stroke. He was confuse and had no idea of where he was. I grab this one copper and sent him flying, I got hold of the other and gave him a nice head butt knocking him also to the ground I disappeared into the crowd of Tiger,s supports which I was one of.

She has dementia she's not criminally insane she should be put in a care facility and proper nursing protocols followed for someone in her condition

first make sure she actually has dementia, she may be using it as an excuse for murdering her husband. if so, she needs to be charged and imprisoned.

If it is proven that she indeed killed her husband, people would not like her running around free to possibly kill again ( even if she is not aware that she is doing it) There are many different wards in mental institutions, it would not necessarily be cruel and she would receive the proper care (but be watched more closely..

Dementia is a very difficult thing. A few weeks ago, my grandmother with dementia, hit my mother with her walking stick causing a huge gash on her forehead thus a gush of blood was ensued. The police was called and she doesn't remember anything. She said she thought she was fighting with her sister. So in this case, the police would have a hard time with her. Because she may not have any reason as to why was there an old guy bleeding in her house.
