Woman tries to pay with obviously photocopied Y10,000 bill

An unemployed young woman was arrested in Shizuoka Prefecture last week after she tried to pay at a convenience store with an obviously photocopied counterfeit bill. The master criminal’s excuse? “I was in a bind because I didn’t have any money.”

According to a police officer at the Fuji Police Station, the 20-year-old woman went into a Family Mart convenience store to pay for a mail order purchase. Her bill was several thousand yen, but she tried to pay with a 10,000 yen bill and get change.

The problem is that the 10,000 yen bill was clearly a fake. The manager was able to see at a glance that it was simply a photocopy with no hologram or other anti-counterfeit features, and he immediately called the police.

The arrested woman later confessed in her deposition that she decided to try the gambit because she didn’t have any money. No word on whether she actually expected to get away with it.

"Back in the day" (as in - around 1980 or so) one of the guys in our barracks regularly used photocopied $5 bills to get change from a change machine. The change machines have become more sophisticated since then.

Reminds me of the episode of The Flintstones (for all of us older people here who watched it when we were kids) when Fred looks into Barney's basement window and sees that he is counterfeiting money! LOL

So she is 20 years old and doesn't have $100 to her name? What a loser.

Guess it wasn't so "convenient" after all.

Only the government can do that!!

At least you can't counterfeit BitCoins.

I used to work at a photocopy store when I was younger and another employee tried this exact same thing. I really couldn't believe he would try it and more amazingly I was surprised he wasn't fired.

She must have been deperate. Sad fact is that there is a large % of the population here who really struggle to get by from month to month......

If the government were to allow people to print their own money it would soon induce the inflation they are so desperate to have.

So sad... (that she had to do it) if she had to. :/

Well, it was a poor copy...

Surely if she had a 10,000 yen note to photocopy in the first place, she would have had the money to pay the bill, no?!

Maybe she didn't photocopy it but instead did a image search and printed it off?

No, she needed to keep her master copy, or else she wouldn't be able to print any more money the next month when the bills were due. She had a plan.

ChibaChick ; I was thinking exactly the same thing !

I could not find the article and this "crime" is a weak old.

Y10,000 is not much $100.45 ==> Maybe she needed a Sagawa delivery? (At 20 kind of young for that I think)

This Abe/BOJ inflation should be creating jobs (more things made in Japan for export) and hopefully increasing salary also. Where are the parents?

Anyway im sorry for her somehow, I hope ppl would listen her out n guide her how to earn n make a living

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Hey, isn't this the same strategy that Abe is trying to pull right now? ;)

I wonder if she used the copier inside the store.

What an idiot....
