Would-be robber sustains broken leg jumping between high-rise buildings

Police said Tuesday that a suspected thief broke his leg after jumping from the balcony of one building onto the roof of a neighboring building while trying to escape capture in Shibuya.

Police said they received an emergency call from a company located in a Shibuya apartment block at about 2 p.m. on Monday, saying that a man had illegally entered their offices, Fuji TV reported.

According to police, the suspect, in his 30s, had sneaked into the office and was spotted by a company employee returning from lunch. Police say the man tried to escape by jumping from the balcony onto the roof of the neighboring building, breaking his leg in the process.

Officers arrived at the scene to find the man on the roof of the building unable to move. They arrested him for trespassing and attempted robbery before transporting him to a hospital for treatment, Fuji reported. Police said they will question the man as soon as he has recovered from his injuries.

Seems to have watched too many TV police dramas and movies. They should arrest him for living without common sense.

They should arrest him for living without common sense.

Then they'd have to arrest 90% of the human population.

Looks like he has been watching to many Hollywood movies, where the action heros jump from roof to roof all the time...

How long does it take to recover from a broken leg before they can question him? I'm pretty sure they could do it the same day, no?

Ha-ha, Amidalism took the words out of my mouth! For J-police this means - they wait till he can run away under their nose ...

as they say, 自業自得

Well, I would not assume anything until I at least see the actual jump in question. It might have simply been bad luck on a daring move. He might have landed on something one might not expect to be there. Even a pebble could mess you up on a big jump. He might be a total fool, or he might be quite the stunt man who just had an unlucky break.

Wait a minute,he has a broken leg, he's not in a coma FFS ....interview him now !

I predict a JT headline in a few days; Roof-jump burglar escapes from hospital on crutches and outruns police !

If it;s a compound fracture (and depending on the height he jumped from, it could very well be) he's not walking anywhere for a while - even on crutches. He's also probably hopped-up on painkillers so anything they ask him now would not be admissible.

@Borscht or playing to much assasins creed

I think is cases like these, such folks should not be allowed to get treated by health care which is paid for by the taxes. Question him NOW and make him pay for his care.

@fadamor - J-hospitals rarely use painkillers for broken legs, or even post surgery - if he is lucky he might get some ibuprofen-like drug, which does not cause sedation or drowsiness...

He could have been watching some Damien Walters Parkour on YouTube.

What an idiot...

I can just see him leap onto the balcony and with a devil-may-care attitude and a cheery wave leap.... only to land like a bag of spuds and wait for the plod to arrest him. Lupin III he is not.

Only Jackie Chan can do this stunt right.

Guess he deserved what he got. Lucky for him it wasn't a broken neck.
