So I'm thinking he is detained, can't contact his wife. Prosecutors have all have all they need.

No...my bad....I'm gonna find some people to make calls on my behalf.

No prison time.

O.K. then. I'm gonna start making some phone calls. Nothing really to lose???

Next week's breaking news: Two out of the three women who sued the Sumiyoshi-kai crime syndicate boss have gone missing.

You fairly overrate yakuzas, most of whom are just a bunch of wannabes with at most junior-high-school-level intelligence, or just a conspiracy theorist who naively believes some anekdotes.

better stop using the word Yakuza and distinguish them from Boryoku-dan-in, Chinpira, Han-gure and Sumiyoshi-kai is Bourryoku-dan

On the the other hand, it’s pretty sad to see the world famous and revered Japanese Yakuza lowering themselves to making phone scams. I thought that was the realm of college punks.

As I wrote above, most of them are just a bunch of punks with sub-human intelligence and can do nothing other than bluffing. You seem to have played yakuza games way too much in the PS4. I feel sorry for that.

Hang on! He is the leader of a crime syndicate. Shouldn't that be enough to arrest him? Just using the word crime means he is a criminal.

On what grounds. I am ever optimistic that people who post here will learn to actually do a tiny bit of research before making such ignorant comments. (but then I woke up)

The Yakuza, as an organization, are NOT outlawed in Japan. So, just being the leader is not enough to arrest him or anyone in or attached to the organization/group.

Keep that in mind next time.

Han-gure and Sumiyoshi-kai is Bourryoku-dan

Meaning yakuza!

One of the crimes listed under Japan's "Anti-Terrorism" Law is "Organised Fraud". Those who engage in organised fraud can be arrested and charged under the act, so the question is: why haven't the police arrested and charged these gangsters? The laws are there, but the police do nothing.

the three received calls at their homes in 2016 from people pretending to be their relatives in need of money. Two of the women paid 5 million yen in total.

who would be stupid enough to send 5 million yen just because he got a call LUL

Jeez, Hiroto - you're a real buzz kill. It's a joke.

The Yaks have really a cool life in Japan!
