Police said Tuesday they have arrested a 45-year-old man for allegedly murdering his father with an icepick at their home in Yokohama.

According to police, Yuichi Sakamoto is accused of smashing his 72-year-old father's skull with a hammer before stabbing him in the chest and abdomen with an ice pick while he slept at around 4 a.m. Monday, TBS reported. Sakamoto dialed 119 to report what he had done. The victim, who has been named as Hiroshi Sakamoto, was taken to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead.

Police said Sakamoto has confessed to his father's murder but has so far not given a motive.

Ice pick? In this weather? also wasn't Basic Instinct on the box over the weekend? coincidence?

In the unbearable HEAT of the night he used an ICEPICK to murder. It sounds like temperature induced insanity to me.

So far given no motive? Lets try a couple of the standard ones: "I was angry because wouldn't make my dinner", I was drunk and don't remember" or my personal favorite, "I just wanted to kill someone"

Smashing his head with a hammer and then stabbing him several times shows this guy was not playing with a full deck. How often do we see super violent murders within the family here in Japan. It is at least weekly and sometimes more often. Is it just me or does anybody else see a problem in the society. Yeah, it happens in other countries too, but not half a dozen times a month.
