At around noon on 30 March, someone in the Aoba Ward of Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, spotted a suspicious person rummaging through a parked minivan and called the police emergency number 110. Officers quickly responded and caught the man while he was still in the apartment complex parking lot and in the process of stealing the vehicle’s navigation system.
The 38-year-old suspect was arrested and questioned by police. During this time he admitted to the attempted theft, telling police, “What Russian President Vladimir Putin did was unforgivable.”
Although the Russian leader has certainly been the focus of headlines worldwide, this was certainly a surprising confession by a would-be electronics thief. The owner of the minivan was determined by police to have no connection to Russia nor to the suspect, leaving his condemnation of Putin a bit of a mystery.
Readers of the news were also left puzzled by this person’s seemingly political motivation for stealing a car navigation system and expressed their confusion in the following comments:
“I have never not understood something as much as this.”
“Lol, what does Putin have to do with this?”
“The real weirdos always come out when the weather warms up.”
“Is this like a butterfly effect thing? Russia invades Ukraine and a car navigation system gets stolen in Japan.”

It's not funny. He needs to steal a car because he is poor. And Putin has increased people's cost of living. I live in an area that produces a lot of poor people because of energy and C19. Many shops were closed, and a large number of people lost their jobs. No one wants to sin. The large number of people trying to make the hungry poor obey the law is laughable in itself. Many countries have been hurt by the war in Ukraine.

Western media of all ilk has been shouting that President Putin is GUILTY of every possible malfeasance known to elicit hostility in the shallow minded and it's almost inevitable that some of those confused individuals will, sincerely, cross-associate the 'bad guy' even unto why garbage collection is late on a given day...the question then becoming why we did not see such association when the Bush's twice decimated Iraq, just as one of MANY examples, or the slaughter of innocents in Mideastern concentration camps, or why the IRGC are labeled 'terrorists' but the murderous SAVAK were trained by the CIA and celebrated for their 'efficiency'. 'Selective perception' when the selection is made by outside voices is psychopathy's greatest tool...and the next time one spills their coffee, they must remember that it's Vladimir's fault...

A moral fable on taking the wrong option when under pressure. If he had said he was drunk and remembered nothing, he'd have walked. If he'd had blamed Facebook, the government would have had him give a speech to the Diet as a victim of Big Tech, and supported him.

I think my biggest concern with this article is the poor quality of the journalism - there is no effort whatsoever to elicit any indication of the actual reason the thief was compelled by Putin to commit this offence, no insight or attempt to enquire what the real story behind this half-baked tale may be, just hung-out and left open to idle speculation.

It’s less weird than you might think. Maybe in a few months some of us are forced to do similar things, when starving, running out of job, money and daily food, because Putin has initiated that war having quite some negative global consequences. Anyway, keep it as peaceful too and only go for navigation systems, not people, like that guy, a possible ‘pioneer’ of the new global order…
