An 18-year-old youth was arrested on Tuesday after he allegedly stabbed three people in an apartment in Hiroshima.
According to police, the youth -- who cannot be named because he is a minor -- stabbed a 52-year-old man, his 51-year-old wife and their 18-year-old son at around 12:30 p.m. The man was able to call police before he was stabbed.
The suspect was apprehended in the corridor outside the apartment. The three victims were taken to hospital where they are in a stable condition, police said.
TBS reported that the suspect, who was in the same class at elementary school as the couple's son, claimed the son had borrowed money from him back then and had never paid it back.

You'd think two 18-year-olds would be out of elementary school by now. Plus, how much can an elementary school student (18 or not) have loaned?

Name and shame. 18 is old enough.

Its a funny world. In my country, 18 is draft age, but you can't have a draft beer. And you finally get to vote but not in time to choose who decides to send you to war, if at all. Voting age is the same in Japan, but I don't know the draft age. As a male in Japan, you can get married, choosing who to spend your entire life with, even though at the very same time it was just decided that you finally have the capacity to decide who to spend just one night with.
And for some inexplicable reason you have the capacity to stab three people at a time, but your name is protected for your lack of capacity.

The article says, " WAS in the same elementary school...", not IS. And you thought Japanese were bad at English!

Can't agree. I'm glad my kids have that extra two years to be kids. They grow up too fast as it is : (

I'm glad the victims are alright. I'm also glad the article pointed out that the attacker was an 18 year old youth as opposed to an 18 year old middle aged man.

People are losing their nuts and bolts all over the World.

An 18-year-old really shouldn't be classed as a minor.

Yes, it says "back then", meaning that indeed he was talking about money loaned in 1st to 6th grade. Insane.
Pukey2
That's part of the problem, people under 20 being treated as kids. Or perhaps people under 20 behaving like kids is the problem.

Japan doesn't have draft= all volunteer.
Korea has a draft for males, my own country every male has to serve. Radical is Israel = males serve 3 years, females serve 2 years and it is called the 'Israeli Self Defense' force is IDF.
Figure that one out?

Does the article say he is talking about money loaned in elementary scool?

Wow! That's a pretty serious grudge to carry from elementary school. I wonder how much money he was owed. A few hundred ten from his lunch money? This kid has quite a few screws loose. Let's hope he gets the help he needs.

Japan will have a draft as soon as a war breaks out. And I have little doubt that these "protected" minors of 18 will quickly find themselves in boot camp followed quickly by being handed a gun with live ammo and ordered to shoot people....rather than stab....and be deemed to have the capacity to determine who gets to live and who dies.

Funny story ... glad that they are safe
