Anyways, because of Covid, not many people went to see movies last year. Heck, they don't even know what movies were released! Of course they're not gonna be familiar with the year's awards - they don't have vested interests on which movies and actors should win

But if anything, this is makes it the purest the Oscars Awards have been for a long time. Think about it: the big-budget Hollywood blockbusters have been postponed till there can be more people in the theaters

So what's been released were the lower-budget films that don't depend on satisfying a huge mass of lowest common denominator. This is the best chance for the lesser-knowns to get their names in the spotlight - and they took advantage!

Furthermore, the lack of gatherings due to Covid also all-but-eliminated the typical studio ad campaigns pushing voters to vote for their movies. So voters would actually have to vote for --gasp-- what they actually like!

So this is the purest Oscars for once in your lifetime

Could you explain why having actors of different colours is "woke"? It seems to be a right wing talking point, usually from people who don't think anyone other than white people deserve to be onscreen, let alone be nominated.

We can all appreciate ‘cinematic artistry’ yet can’t understand your complaint @NCIS Reruns 4:06pm. Very few “action-filled, American blockbusters” have won a Oscar.

Btw: Every @NCIS Rerun has graphically-detailed, gruesome murders & autopsies; extensive automatic weapons firefights; high-speed car chases amongst an exposed, vulnerable civilian population; and, of course, the exaggerated pyrotechnics resulting from even the slightest “fender bender”.

Yes @LK 5:45p. “Brokeback Mountain” and “Life of Pi” were winners for “cinematic artistry”. But, was “Gemini Man” a typical, Will Smith box-office success fore the studios? Forget the ‘action flicks”. Mr. Lee needs to stick with the beautiful films and storytelling for which he’s lauded.

It’s all a been a rumored ‘shell game”. Some indications were those “advanced ticket sales” to “sold out” showings and then, theatres are 10-30% empty at “showtime”. Comcast has been romancing Disney in their bids to buy it since 2004. Comcast owns Fandango, the largest online seller of tickets, at the time(2019).
