Bohemian Rhapsody is awesome! Black Panther was total, racial garbage!

In fact, Black Panther was so bad, I couldn't finish the movie. And just what was the point of them drowning out the white guy when he tried to speak, and telling him his voice was not important? If it had been the other way around as far as skin colour is concerned, there'd be an uproar!

Complete trash!

Black Panther sucked! Bohemian Rhapsody should win and Rami Malek

Black Panther being nominated is a major disappointment. Oscars have sunk into mediocrity with that move.

Best movie of the year, in my opinion, was Roma. What a beautiful movie - another masterpiece by Cuarón. I strongly recommend it.

Black Panther? Pfft!! Nope.

A good article on todays bias Oscar picks due to sensitive folks online..:

Black Panther is populist trash, it doesn't even deserve to get nominated .

Bohemian Rhapsody is good, but Roma is awesome.

BP was a great film. go rewatch Birth of Nation if you don't like it.

Black Panther is not my best picture pick... Wouldn't even make nominees if I were choosing... but I'm not choosing. I liked it overall though.

Ok. I’ll accept the edit to my previous post. But I do think that far to many people automatically dislike anything that has anything positive to say or show about people of African decent. Black Panther was not overalls racial in anyway unless having people of color existing is “racial” the story was explicitly against racially defined “in and out” groups. And showed good and evil have no color.

If if you don’t like super hero films being nominated or celebrated that’s one thing. But to critique BP as some kind of anti-white movie is completely inaccurate. A KING telling someone to be silent inside his own kingdom isn’t racial. Haha it’s called power.

IF Bohemian Rhapsody does not win an Oscar this year, this explains why: https://www.refinery29.com/en-us/2019/01/222111/bohemian-rhapsody-movie-controversy-freddie-mercury-story

Really want to see Vice. Is it out in Japan yet?

BlacKkKlansman sucks too

@Shinjuku no Yazu, please do not bring racial context into movie likes and dislikes.

I dont like any of the Star Wars movies either, because they have no storylines, cliched dialogues and if you look beyond the fantasist costumes , hardly any content. Movies like these are good as pre-adolescent comics, but Oscar deserving movies, come on...

Haven't seen ' The Favorite' yet, but saw Roma over the weekend and it is just awesome.

"Black Panther," the first superhero movie ever nominated for best picture.

and yet the worst superhero movie ever made”*

Go figure

I didn't find Black Panther to be racist, just stupid and mindlessly entertaining - like most superhero movies. I do find it racist that such a mediocre movie was nominated for best picture. The racism of low expectations.

From your link:

Sheila O’Malley of **RogerEbert.com writes, “By rights, this ought to be a glammed-up, sexually-charged, four-octave blowout.”**

I would definitely agree with this. I’ve always said it was “too PG”.

However, anything celebrating one of the greatest singers/song and music writers/pianist of all time will be successful.

I do wonder though, if the movie does win, will it because of how great Freddie and the band was, or because he was bisexual.

Roma seems to be the favorite

Lot of firsts here - first superhero movie for Best Picture, first streaming Netflix B&W foreign-language Roma, first indigenous actress for Best Actress, Spike Lee for Best Director and Best Picture, many first-time nominees

Btw, the Razzie Awards nominees have also been announced, lol

No political or social agenda's whatsoever from the entertainment industrial complex, right? This nonsense is so transparent, it is laughable -- except maybe to the ignorant sheep who, sadly, take this at face value.

"Bona fide cultural event"? Sorry, there's no award for that.

Black Panther was not even a very good super hero movie, let alone 'best picture'... It's a shame if they lower the standards just to make a political statement. The Academy is just cheapening the award and it will be meaningless when a black film comes along that actually deserves to win.

Hollywood peddling their political correct nonsense again I see.

I wonder how many of those pretentious and privileged prats will divulge their delusions of grandeur in the form of a fradulent and souless speech that emphasises everyday problems that regular hard-working people have to deal with, except they don't get to go home to their million dollar mansions.

There are only around 6,000 voting members in the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. It's a private club, and the public's wishes do not count. OTOH, it should not be to difficult for social media influencers to pressure 25%, or more, of the actors, directors, writers, etc. who vote for these movie categories.

Respect for the Academy has dropped even another notch.

Black Panther is not Oscar material.

In fact, it's a mediocre superhero movie - not very good.

Good choice for Roma. But looking at this list, there are so many racially themed movies. I'm burned out them.

The Academy is beholden to populism rather than cinematic excellence.
