Movie remakes, comic book/Manga adaptations etc...that try and change the characters the plot, etc...to suit their view of the world, fail more often than they succeed!

What they really mean is they are trying to avoid the extremely vocal PC/Woke minority that are well organized on social media and politics in the west that will blacklist, harass, etc... anyone involved if they are not happy!

If they really want a "Global Audience" then that would include Asia, Middle East, Africa, South America and Eastern Europe where the reality of life still exists and not just the, Hollywood controlled Western Europe and North America audience that has been shrinking with every PC/woke production!

Definitely NOT watching this! If it's not true to the original story, then there's no need to watch it. Stop allowing other interest groups to hijack your ideas. You are letting someone else destroy your vision.

I can't financially support this movement. Furthermore, this new City Hunter will be ratioed and destroyed by online critics. Have no illusion! The world has changed. We aren't listening to what some corporate exec who stands to profit has to say about the movie or show. We are watching and faithfully listening to online movie critics who will tell us the truth!

Will it follow City Hunter or AngelHeart continuity?

In City Hunter, Ryo Saeba cannot stop being a womanizer. In AngelHeart, older and more mature Ryo indeed moves away from womanizing and becomes a father figure.

Looking at the age of lead actor, it could follow AngelHeart continuity but who knows.

I can't help but note every single person complaining here is a guy.

It's unsurprising that misogyny in anime doesn't bother men, because after all, misogyny benefits men as they can behave however they like and don't have to think about the feelings or welfare of women.

It's also unsurprising that men don't care at all about how misogyny in anime might affect female fans. After all, much of the audience is male, and if anime is not directed at a male audience, with men at the center, catering exclusively to mens' interests, men complain that they are being intentionally excluded.

So very typical to think that equality is actually taking something away and giving it to someone else, when in fact, it's simply ensuring that everyone can enjoy it.

Ruin Japan culture? Yeah, ruin the culture of misogyny. Cry me a river.

If they are fans, then by default they are fine with it!

If they don't like it there are plenty of other anime to watch!

But the simple fact they are not looking to make a movie from the animes that those like you that don't like the original premise and characters point to those anime not being very popular!

This is the same argument around everything females complain about, the WMBA make less money, it is men's fault despite 60% of those watching are men and women aren't.

The argument that they work just as hard as the NBA isn't an argument on logic, they don't bring in as much revenue and that is because women aren't watching.

The same for movies and anime, those you and other women that think like you don't bring in the audience or revenue so you want to destroy whatever you don't like as to make what you approve of look better.

It isn't men's fault, if anything it is women's fault!

You make up 50% of the population and plent6of mangas and anime out there that are not like this one but the women are not supporting those either!

So instead of trying to make those you don't like but are successful into what you "approve" why not go out and support the ones you do approve of and make them a hit! Stop blaming men for the fact women (50% of the population) are not supporting what you approve of!

He was "very conscious" of a "City Hunter" adaptation by French actor and director Philippe Lacheau in 2018, widely hailed as the paragon of how Japanese manga should be reincarnated as live-action.

I know the City Hunter manga and not putting in some of the old fashioned jiji sexism etc won't ruin any movie made now if the script writing is on point. It doesn't matter if the female love interests are updated to have minds of their own and strength of personality - sounds better than the cardboard type females of a lot of manga pre 21st century.

Any good contemporary movie making wants to attract both a male and female audience and a 2022 Japanese City Hunter movie has a lot of potential to be more sophisticated than one keeping to 1980s' norms.

Now look at what is being produced in the USA today and ask will they do that or will they more likely make the main male character weak, needy and his "female" love or companion will be able to "teach" him or do everything better?

One just has to look at the last season of Witcher to see what will be the more likely scenario!

I doubt the City Hunter protagnist is going to be shown as a weak or needy character. Agree with you and others about screwing around with classics or making movies about a familiar past but making it follow contemporary values of political correctness or changing it because it reflected those times instead of these times.

That's pretty presumptuous of you to assume that we're all male.

Also, how is Ryo from City Hunter an example of misogyny when he absolutely loves women and certainly doesn't hate them or have any contempt for them. He may be somewhat sexist by today's standards 40 years on, but hardly a prejudiced misogynist. Maybe that's why City Hunter's fan base is pretty split 50/50 between men and women, but you probably didn't know that...

City Hunter was okay, I guess, but after a dozen or so episodes I stopped watching. All the episodes were about the same and I found the sex jokes got old. They became a drag. Over and over and over again. If this movie is an improvement, then good. I was too bored to keep on watching anyway with the anime.
